Kiwi Sport Reflection

For Kiwi sport this week we played a simple game called Rush Tag which is similar to bull rush but instead you have to try and take the rippas from the opponents. It was a really competitive game because some people had really good stepping techniques such as Jona and Junior. After this we finished of with a game of Rippa Rugby. For this game we were splited into 3 teams since we had a big group. Our goal for attacking (running the ball) is to pass the ball to someone that can find a space to run and our goal for defending (tagging the opponents) was to spread out, make not gaps for the attacking team, and run towards the attacking team as a line. At the end we were really fatigued but had a really enjoyable time with Hamish (coach).

Kiwi Sport

This week was our second session for Kiwi Sport with Hamish (Rippa Rugby Coach). We played a game of Rippa Rugby which was fun because we were allowed to pass forward but if one of your rippas was tagged off you were to pass the ball backwards. Luckily, I scored two tries just to make my team win. After the game we practiced our side step skills with Hamish since there is a lot of side steps that happen in tag or rugby. We were to step with our weak leg (my one was my left) so when it comes to a game we are use to stepping with both foots. We also practiced how to spin which was fun because some of us were really dizzy. At the end we were splited into group to play a little game of tag. First we were counted from 1-13. Then Hamish would pick a team to attack (run the ball) and the other team to defend (take of the rippa from the opposite team). Hamish was to call a number for example four. Then number four from the attack group would receive the ball from Hamish while the other number 4 from the other group was to try take the rippa from them. Thank you to Hamish for coaching us and Mr Johnson (principal) for supervising us.

Kiwi Sport Reflection

Today was our first session for Kiwi sport. For Kiwi sport we are focusing on softball. Our coach was Alison who was very funny. First we had to partner up and play catches. Catching was easy because the ball was soft. As part of softball we did a lot of throwing and catching which was pretty fun.We learnt a new move called the Monkeydile which you have to kneel down and make a crocodile position out of your hands. We were to catch the ball from the ground which is called a ground ball. We also learnt that when catching a ball you have to use the butterfly shape out of your hands. My partner Fraidon and I found it easy because we've already done it in our junior classes.

Badminton

Today was Kiwi Sport and that we are learning Badminton this term. We really enjoyed badminton because it was a challenging, seeing who can do 10 juggles with the Shuttle Cock. We were in partners doing the four hand and back hand pass. Four hand pass is when your racket is like a frying pan. You have to put your thumb on top of the rackets handle. I learnt that the back hand is similar, but you have to face the racket down so your thumb is facing down. I found back hand more challenging. I was partners with Kevin (badminton coach) and Mrs Anderson. It was challenging for both Mrs Anderson and I because it was our first time dong the back hand pass, but we did really good. We go over 20 passes. When I was with Kevin we managed to do very well. Kevin and I did 102 passes. He did the four hand pass and I did the back hand pass because I wanted to challenge myself. I learnt that India invented badminton.

Kiwi Sport - Circus

This week for Kiwi Sport (For Kiwi Sport this year the seniors are doing Run , Jump , Throw ,) We did a circus and there were 5 activities to do which was Discus Roll (Had to roll the discuss through two cones) , Hoop Throw (Had to use a hoop and use the discuss techniques to make the hoop go over the pole), Long Jump (We had to take a two footed take off from the line that was there and land as far as can and had to mark the back of the heel), Shot Put (We had to Push (throw) the ball so it land in the hoop), and Sprints (We had to run as many 50m hurdles shuttle as possible in 1 minute). First we got spit in to groups (There were 5 groups) . We were given a piece of paper that showed all 5 activities we were going to do and also the points. I learnt how to throw a Shot Put which is to stand side on , dirty fingers , clean palm , dirty neck , chin , knee, toe all in a row and Low to high watch it fly. I was a bit struggling on activity 2 (Hoop Throw) because I had to use the discuss technique which I didn't know that much. My favorite activity was the sprints which I did 6 runs in 1 minute, but I think for next time I should do more.
