Kiwisport Reflection

Image result for boxing clipart

Today was our 2nd session of Boxing for Term 4. Our coach was Pax Patel. For our warm up game we got into a circle and practiced what we practiced last week which was jab, cross. When jabbing we were to put our hands straight like a vertical line. When cross punching you are to twist your feet which will give you power when you go up for the cross punch. After that we learnt how to hook with our left and right hand. When hooking we were to bend our arm at a 90 degrees Angle, rotate our body, turn our lead foot, bend our knees, and then punch. I learnt that when punching a hand the other is supposed to be kept guarded, so you don't get punched. We then learnt how to uppercut. We did the same process as hook punch, but instead we were to punch upwards. I learnt that every move we do such as: jab, cross, hook, and uppercut we are to always keep always guard our face not matter what punch you are doing. After that we put to practice all of the moves.

Kiwisport - Boxing

Today was our first session of Kiwisport. For Kiwisport this term we have Boxing. Our coach was Pax. Before doing any kind of activity or exercise we were to learn her 3 Commandment/rules. Those commandments were respect, discipline, and be safe. We have to respect others around us and also respect the equipment, we have to be discipline meaning being responsible for our own actions and also being humble at all times, and the last commandments is to be safe in the environment around us. Another rule that was stated is that if one person mucks around the whole group gets the punishment . After talking about the rules and commandments we started off with a warm up. For this warm up we were to partner up with a buddy and then either partner 1 or 2 (we were to pick who was number 1 and 2) was to try and touch their partners knees. It was hard for me because Julian (my partner) was a very competitive person, but at the end I won. The rules were, if you were tagged on the knee you were to a bur-pee. We then changed it to tagging the shoulder. This was pretty easy since we didn't need to bend down. Soon, Pax taught us the stunt in boxing which she called the rock. Basically all you had to do is put one leg forward and one leg back. Then you were to go down like you were doing the haka. This will help you balance properly. We then learnt a move called Jab-Cross. We were to jab with our left hand and cross with our left hand. I learnt that when you cross you have to twist your right leg so you don't go falling when cross punching. I enjoyed today's session and can't wait for next weeks session. Thank you to Pax for coaching us and Mrs Anderson for joining and supervising us.

Kiwisport - Netball

For Kiwisport this week Mrs Morris has set us a game of Netball. This was a great opportunity for those who are in the Netball team for inter schools. First we started with a game of Golden Child. If you don't know what Golden Child is click on this link. We didn't play the exact game of Golden Child because we change one thing. Instead of the team shooting the ball in the hoop they were to pass the ball around their whole group twice. The running was to also run around the court twice. This was an energetic game. At the end of our session we played netball. Everyone loved this sport and enjoyed it. Thank you to Mrs Morris for supervising and taking us to kiwi sport today.

Kiwisport | Rippa Rugby

This week was our 4th session of kiwi sport with Hamish (Rippa Rugby Coach). First we played two rounds of octopus using the rippa tags. Most people used their speed to get pass people and some used their foot work to get pass the taggers. After that we were splitted into three teams to play an actual game of Rippa Rugby. Two teams were chosen to go on he field and had 5 minutes of game time. Then the other group verses the winner of the first game. It was great to see a lot of people participate. Thank you to Hamish for coaching and reffing our games and Ms Morris for supervising us.

Kiwisport | Rippa Rugby

Today was our second session of Rippa Rugby with Hamish (Rugby Coach). First we played a game of Everybody's It Tag which is a simple game where everyone is in and you have to try and get a rippa from another person. The rule were that you were not allowed to cover your rippa, no contact with anyone else and you were not allowed to stay in one spot. At the end the person with the most rippas win. The next game we played was Tag Rush which is similar to bull rush bust instead the tagger has to try and take a rippa from another person. I really enjoyed this game because I got to use my stepping skills on my friends. After playing four rounds of Tag Rush at the end we finished off with a actual game of Rippa Rugby. I think this was my favorite game I played today because it's like playing rugby (my favorite sport) but instead, no contact. Thank you to Hamish for coaching us and thank you to Ms Morris for supervising us.

Kiwisport | Rippa Rugby

Today was our first session for Kiwi Sport. We were excited and couldn't wait to play. Our Kiwisport coach was Hamish from the Marist Rugby club which most of us knew him from a lot of our Rugby Inter schools so we got a long with him quite quickly. First we played a game of Netball Rugby. In this game we were split into two groups. The aim of the game was to pass the ball (rugby rule) to our team without running (netball rule) and try to get to the other side of the field. It was a bit tricky for me because I'm always use to running with ball since I play rugby. Soon we played a game where we had to pass the ball in our team line trying to reach to the end of our group. This game was a really competitive game because people were eager to pass the ball quickly up and down the line. People were to excited so they dropped the ball and had to start again. At the end of the session we played Netball Rugby again but instead we were allowed to run with the ball and you had to tag the opposite team with two hands. I felt happy today because I played a sport that is of real interest to me.

Kiwisport | With Miss Morris

Today unfortunately Auckland sports wasn't able to come to our school and teach Rippa Rugby. But, we were lucky enough to have Kiwisports with our reliever teacher Miss Morris who I think was a good sport coach. First we had a warm up game which we had to be splited into two groups which was a competition for everyone. We were to pass the ball through our whole team. Then we had a game of Ball Tag which was played at the courts. Ball Tag was fun because we did a lot of running. It was very competitive because I was versing some good people who played this game more than me. Thank you to Miss Morris for coaching us today.

Roller Skating

As part of Kiwi sports this term Mr Ogilvie has kindly offered skating lessons in the hall for students year 4-8. Today was the year 7&8 and everyone was estatic. First Puna (our skating coach) taught us how to get up on the roller skates which was pretty easy for some people. We then had a warm up game by practicing how to skate. I found it easy but I think I need to work on my momentum. Soon we had a race and it was a bit hard because people were screaming all over the place. Luckily I came first for my group. At the end of the lesson we were lucky to get VIP Skate Pass which meant we could go to one free skating class. Thank you to Mr Ogilvie and Mrs Anderson for supervising us and Puna for teaching us how to skate.
