Manaikalani Ambassador Event

This term I had the opportunity to go and share my learning with other visitors from around New Zealand and also some other Manaikalani Cluster school leaders. There were schools like, Ruapotaka School, Glen Taylor, St Patricks, Stonfields, Tamaki College, Tamaki Primary, Pt England, Edge water Somerville Special School, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Puau Te Moananui A Kiwa School, and Panmure Bridge School (Me). I shared one of my learning based on the Winter Olympics from last term. I explained how I used Learn, Create, Share to help me learn in class. I also talked about how I sent an email to the Olympic Committee and how they send an email back and also poster with the Olympic values which are Friendship, Respect, and Excellence. Of course I enjoyed my work, but I really enjoyed learning and hearing from a student name Joel from Edge water Somerville Special School who really hooked me into his work. He explained how in the olden days people used pen to write and every mistake was rubbed out and he had to do it all over again. Then he explained how modern technology helped him in his classroom and how it helps him learn, create, and share. He also talked about how he uses shortcuts such ctrl (control) shift c to copy work and ctrl (control) shift v to paste work. I would like to congratulate him for his hard effort.

Kiwi Can - T3 W6

This week for Kiwi Can both our tutors Mr Matt & Miss Lily was here (Miss Lily was gone for a few sessions). We were lucky to have her back. First we re-caped what our theme and topic was. Our theme still sticks with Resilience and our topic is still Problem Solving. Resilience is when you bounce back from challenges. Problem solving means when you work together with someone or in a team to share ideas and find the best solution to a difficult problem. For our energizer we played a game called quick draw. In this game there is a master and that master goes around the circle, then the master and the person standing up from the circle put's their hand behind their back. Once the caller (Mr Matt) says go the master and the other person are suppose to put 1-5 fingers up. The winner is the quickest person to add all fingers up (including theirs) and know the answer. For example if I'm holding the number three and the master holding two it's the first person to call out five (because there's five fingers all together). In my perspectives this was one of my best Kiwi Can sessions of this term.

Kiwisport - Netball

For Kiwisport this week Mrs Morris has set us a game of Netball. This was a great opportunity for those who are in the Netball team for inter schools. First we started with a game of Golden Child. If you don't know what Golden Child is click on this link. We didn't play the exact game of Golden Child because we change one thing. Instead of the team shooting the ball in the hoop they were to pass the ball around their whole group twice. The running was to also run around the court twice. This was an energetic game. At the end of our session we played netball. Everyone loved this sport and enjoyed it. Thank you to Mrs Morris for supervising and taking us to kiwi sport today.

Venn Diagram - Bridges, Tunnels, Towers

As part of Inquiry we were to finish off uncompleted work. Jeremiah and I decided to finish of one of our Venn diagrams based on the similarities and differences of towers, tunnels, and bridges. I've learnt that only bridges have suspensions and tunnels are the only ones that can go through ground. Did you know that only bridges and towers sway side to side. To make our DLO look more appealing we've decided to draw the structures.

How to tell the time on an analogue clock? Explanation

For the past few weeks of writing Ms Kirkpatrick group have been writing explanation about How to tell an analogue time. A lot of people around the world have analogue clocks to help children enlarge their skill. In our days a lot of people like using digital time as it easier to tell the time. But this is not that helpful because these days some students can't tell the time on an analogue clock and this is an easy maths skill. If you would like to read my explanation of how to tell an analogue time click here.

Maths Rich Task - Jola's Birthday Party

This week for maths Ms Kirkpatrick has set us another Maths Rich Task. In my perspective I think this was the easiest problem I've ever solved. First we were to solve three problems based on a birthday party. The skill we used to solve this problem was our division and multiplication skills. After solving the three problems we then had to pick one of the problems to make a DLO on. Ofa and I have decided to choose the last problem which talks about how many eggs each person that attended Jola's birthday should get. Each box holds 6 eggs and we had to figure out if 50 eggs would be enough for 8 of the guest. Our answer and our working out is on the DLO.

Venn Diagram - Water View Tunnel In Auckland

As part of Ms Kirkpatrick's Inquiry group we were to finish uncompleted work from our previous Inquiry sessions. So Today Jeremiah and I have found one of our  lying in our google drive so we decided to post it on our blog. For this task we were to compare and contrast the Water view & Gothard Tunnel. I've learnt that both tunnel are the longest ones in their country. Its sad to hear that 9 men's lost their live due to work related accidents. Next time probably I could compare and contrast a tunnel, bridge, and a tower. If I was to do this I would probably pick the Sky Tower, Gotthard Tunnel, and the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

Note Making - Buildings and Structures

At the beginning of our learning of buildings and structures we wrote down what we knew about what they are and what their purpose is. The questions we were asked were what is a structure, who is involved what materials is it made out of, and famous examples. Their were a lot of famous examples as we hear about them fairly regularly. At the start we did not have a good understanding of what they are and we are now using that as foundation so that we can add more information. Examples of famous building or structures in New Zealand is the Auckland Sky Tower which stands at 1,076 foot tall. Did you know that the green lighting on the sky tower represent St Patrick's Day. As part of our buildings & structures project the seniors from Panmure Bridge have got the opportunity to visit the infamous sky tower. For this inquiry topic I am working with Jeremiah K.

Similarities & Differences

This week for Inquiry Mrs Anderson has set LS2 a challenge which is to compare and contrast three different towers from around the world. This was a bit challenging because instead of a normal two Venn diagram we were to make a three Venn diagram. I have worked collaboratively with Jeremiah and Sanujan. The three towers we compared and contrasted was the Auckland Sky Tower, Eiffel Tower, and the Sky Tree in Japan. I learnt that the tallest tower out of all of them is the Sky Tree being at 2,080 ft. I have also learnt that the Sky Tree cost 65 billion Japan Yen dollars which is a lot of money. The Auckland Sky Tower is an amazing monument in Auckland I've learnt that it has 3 main decks which is the Sky Deck (highest), Main Observation level and the Sky Cafe. Panmure Bridge was very lucky because we were given an opportunity to visit the sky tower and see the amazing view of Auckland. Did you know that if the Sky Tower is decorated blue it symbolizes the Auckland Blues and the New Zealand Warriors.

Tech - Hawaiian Pizza

This week Mrs Tuipolotu instructed us to construct our own Hawaiian pizza with our partner. To start, the first person received our pizza bread and spread the tomato paste on top of the bread. While they were doing that the second person which was me then diced the ham, onion, and chicken. When everything was done we put all the toppings on our pizza with a bit of pineapple. After that we topped our pizza with cheese then we put it in an oven which was preheated to 180 degrees for 15 minutes. I really enjoyed and in my perspectives this is my favorite cooking session out of all. I also enjoyed food tech today because I drunk the pineapple juice.

Afterschool Basketball|Panmure Bridge Orange

Yesterday after school two year 7 & 8 teams went down to Tamaki College to play basketball against other manaikalani cluster school. I was part of the Panmure Bridge Orange team and we played against St Patricks Yellow at 5:00. Before the game we talked about who was coming off and on and also telling each other to communicate on the court at all times. At the first half we played well making the score 4-0. At the end our school won 10-0. We were happy of our win and also a big thank you to Mrs Anderson, Mrs Prassad, and Mrs Burke for supervising us.

Similarities & Differences - Auckland Viaduct Harbor Bridge & Golden Gate Bridge

Today we have created a Venn diagram which compare and contrasts the similarities and differences of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Auckland Viaduct Harbour Bridge. The similarity which most people will not think of is that they are both built in Westernised nations. As Ofa (my partner) and I searched for information we found three similarities and fourteen differences. The Golden Gate Bridge is equal to 27 of New Zealand's viaduct harbour bridges as the viaduct bridge is 330 ft and the Golden Gate Bridge is 8,981 ft.

Why Sleep Is Important?

This term we have been working collaboratively within our READ groups to find information that will expand our knowledge about sleep. For this topic we have been answering the questions we needed to answer to create a presentation which will hopefully showcase the amount of learning and skills we have picked up along the way. Since the beginning week of this topic we have chosen a leader who helped us stay on track and made sure that we were worked collaboratively within our group. While we were trying to improve our knowledge about sleep we all partook so as a guideline we used the reciprocal reading technique. In reciprocal reading we have someone who summarises the text, a questioner, a leader, a person who helps clarify confusing material found in a text, and also a predictor. While doing this activity we were asked to book our own guided sessions as we needed help with the question, does technology effect our sleeping patterns and also we were asked to choose a time where Mrs Anderson will help us learn how to infer. To learn how to infer we looked at the rooms children around the world have to sleep in and answered does everyone get a healthy sleep. Our group answered no as some of them are at risk of getting while others are always on the lookout for danger as they sleep in an open space. To summarise our learning we created a presentation which answers all the questions asked by Mrs Anderson. Today we showed all the reading groups what we have done and we all spoke proudly and we were all proud of our efforts. While learning about sleep we learnt that melatonin was the hormone produced in our bodies to regulate our sleeping patterns. I found this interesting because I didn't know that our bodies produce more than one hormone. At the end of our reading sessions we presented our DLO's to everyone in our reading group.

Maths Week|Scale Drawing

Last week LS2 has been doing scale drawings for Maths Week. This is my second time doing this and I think I've done better than last year. Last year I drew a NBA player name Lebron James. This year I decided to draw a animated character from Naruto which is Ashura. Our ratio was the same as last year which is 1:2. The hardest part was for me was drawing the enlargement which I need to improve on. The best part about scale drawing was coloring it in because it made the picture look more alive and stand out. If I was to do this again in secondary school such as graphics class I think I will need to work on drawing my enlargement and making sure it is measured properly and I would probably draw a cartoon person such as Stewie Griffin.

Transum|Table master|6 Timetable

Today for self management I went on transum and played a online maths game called table master and I did my 6 time tables. I answered 20 questions based on the 6 time tables and got all of them right. First I did it in 26 seconds and when I did it again I improved being at 22 seconds. In comparison of both of the score I was only 4 seconds faster than my first score. The trickiest timetable was 6 x 9. This was a fun maths game but challenging. If you would like to go on it click here

Kiwi Can Reflection

Image result for kiwi can

Today was our 4th session of Kiwi Can and Mr Matt was our Kiwi Can tutor. First we talked about the theme and the topic for this week. Our theme is still resilience which means bouncing back from difficulties or challenges. Our topic for this week is problem solving. Problem solving is when you work together with someone or in a team to share ideas and find the best solution to a difficult problem. We also talked about how we can problem solve in a maths class. For example if a person tries to copy you in a maths problem you can solve it by telling the teacher or if your kind you can help them. After discussing the topic and theme then we moved onto on our energizer. Our energizer game was called rock paper scissors. In this game you are to rock paper scissors with someone and if you loose you are to go on knees. Once you are on your knees you are to verse someone who's on there knees. If you loose then you sit out of them game. If you win and your on your knees then you get back up and verse another person. This game was played until last person standing. Next we played our activity which was the best Kiwi Can game. This game was called hand soccer which is similar to soccer but you have to use your hands to control the ball. I really enjoyed this game because it made us fatigued which was good.

Online Maths Game|Ordering Decimals

Today LS2 was finishing off their scale drawings which we did with Ms Kirkpatrick. A few people have finished so we were to play an online game. I played a maths game which was based on ordering decimals. This decimal game had up to 2 decimal places for example if I was to round 4.632 to two decimal places it will either be rounded to 4.63 or 4.64. If 4.632 was to be rounded to 2 decimal places it would be 4.32 because it is the closes number to 2 decimal places. The game was pretty easy because I got a score of 6 out of 6 in the time that was given. The screenshot above is not my actual score, it was taken when I was playing my first game. If you would like to go on this game click here.

Kiwi Can Session 3

Today was our 3rd session of Kiwi Can. We had Mr Matt Only since Ms Lily was sick. First we reviewed what our theme and topic is. Our theme for this term Resilence which means bouncing back from challenge and never giving up. Our topic for this term is Goal Setting which is when you set a little goals for something you want to achieve or accomplish. One of my goal for this term is to aim over 250 blog post this year. My goal for sports is to win all basketball games to make it to the finals. In Kiwi Can we also talked about how we can celebrate achieving our goals. For example what it if I make it to the Auckland Under 13's team. I would probably celebrate by having a BBQ or going to a restaurant. Our energizer was called snatch the cone. This game was very simple. First we made a round shape with a rope and then everyone was to stand outside of the circle. Then Mr Matt put some cones inside the circle. What we were to was when Mr Matt said the word go we were to react fast and try to snatch a cone from inside the circle. It sounds a bit dull but we were energized. Soon for our activity we played Golden Child. Basically for this game there is two teams. One team who are called the shooters and the other team who are called the runners. The shooters have to shoot the ball in the hoop and try get it in. The runners have to run around the basketball court and if the shooters shoot and make a the ball in the hoop the runner has to stop. If the shooter doesn't get it in then the runner can still run until reaching the end of the court. The last runner is the Golden Child. The Golden Child is the person who runs around the court unfreezing everyone who got out. Then the Golden Child and the other runners run until they reach the end. If the Golden Child make it with the other runners they win but if someones shoots and get it in then the Golden Child and his runners are out. This was a energized and amazing game.

Gold Attitude C.A.R.E Award - Respect Leader/David Lange

As part of Self Management I've finished one of my Gold Attitude C.A.R.E Award which is based on a respected leader. The task was to research a New Zealander who has a positive attitude despite difficulties they have faced. I decided to choose David Lange. David Lange was New Zealand 32nd Prime Minister and served from 1984 to 1989. He is an inspirational man and had to overcome huge obstacles and barrier such as fighting for the Member of Parliament for Hobson electorate which he lost. David Lange never gave up his chances and later he won the Mangere seat by landslide. Landslide is when someone get an enormous majority of votes for their party or to become Prime Minister. He also was elected as the leader for the labor party. In 1984 he then was elected as prime minister for New Zealand. We thank him for his bravery and introducing the 'No Nukes' policy meaning that Americans would never sail nuclear ships into New Zealand's water. This was to keep the peace between America and New Zealand.

Rugby League Interschools

Today was the Rugby League Inter schools. This wasn't an usual tournament because there was only 3 teams including us. The teams were Pt England, Sylvia Park, and Panmure Bridge. Instead of playing the team once we played them twice. We were hoping to at least win two of our games which we did. Our first game was against Sylvia Park. We made meters and broke the deference line. At the end we won making it 4-3. We had a bye then we versed Pt England. Pt England had a big team, but that didn't change our hopes of giving up. We did good on attacking but we lacked defense and lost 7-2. We were the only team out of Sylvia Park and us to score against Pt England which we were happy about. Our third game was against Sylvia Park. We communicated to each other on defense and won the game 7-3. Our last game was against Pt England. We tried to improve from our first game against Pt England. Our main focus was defense which we did pretty well on, but we missed some of our tackles. We attacked Pt England strong and at the end the score was 6-3. I was happy because I scored 6 tries (1 try against Pt England, and 5 try's against Sylvia Park). Thank you to Mr Ogilvie for coaching and preparing us and also supervising us today.

Cook Island Language Week

This week is Cook Island language week and we respect their culture by embarrassing it. We then made a DLO talking about the traditional foods and dances, phrases/sayings, it's flag and prime minister, a map of Cook Island and also Travel information for example how many hours it would to go from here (New Zealand) to Cook Island. I learnt that the 15 stars on the Cook Island flag stand for the 15 islands that make up Cook Island, which is Tongareva, Rakahanga, Manihiki, Pukapuka, Nassau, Suwarrow, Palmerston, Aitutaki, Manuae, Takutea, Atiu, Mitiaro, Mauke, Rarotonga, and Mangaia. I've also learnt that the capital of Cook Island is Avarua which is well known for their amazing beaches and shopping centers.

Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu - Quad Blogging

Today we have focused on Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu which is Quad Blogging. In LS2 we have blogging buddies form 2 different school which are Karoro School and Paparoa Range School who come from the South Island. Today we were chosen a buddy from Karoro School and was to comment on their blogs. I commented on Sean blog who recently has 12 blog post. I commented on his Space Project DLO and was shock to see how many work he has put into his DLO. I think Sean has done an amazing work.
