On Friday P.B.S held their own athletics day. We had students from Tamaki College help us make this event. There were a lot of fun activities such as: shot put, rob the nest, long jump, try not to drop the egg, and other fun activities. We were put into four different color group which were red, green, blue, and yellow. I was in yellow which was a difficult color to find. My favorite activity was rob the nest because I was always occupied and it was also a competitive game. At the end of our athletics we did sprints and whoever won the sprints from year 4 to 8 (Only 1st and 2nd) were to go to the Inter school Athletics in Week 9 (this is where you go against other manaikalani cluster schools). I placed 4th in my race which I'm still happy with.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson.

Tech Reflection|Digital Charity Box|Homeless
For one of the graphics task I was to create a charity box on a DLO. This was meant to be done as a charity box but in a digital version. As my charity box is based on homelessness I included phrases that says: please donate to the homeless and make someone's day happy. I have also included a photo of a homeless person to make my DLO more attractive.

For one of the tech task we were to make a DLO with all the activities we have been doing this term for graphic. This included the activities we posted on our blog, our t-shirt printing, and our charity box. I have included nearly everything I've done this term. I am really proud of myself for finishing a lot of work. Some activities are not up on this DLO since I couldn't find them.

Book Week activity 6|Differences Between Fiction & Non-Fiction
Today I have completed my 6th activity for one of the Book Week tasks. For this Book Week activity I was to make a DLO writing down the differences between a fiction book and a non-fiction book. It is simple. A fiction is a made up story and a non-fiction is a true story. There are other points on the difference between fiction and non-fiction.

Book Week Activity 5|The Dragon of Fortune|Geronimo Stilton
Today I have completed my fifth task for one of the Book Week activities. For this activity I was to count how many words in average there could be in 3 pages of a book. So what I had to was gather all three total numbers from the 3 pages and divide it by 3. I decided to do this activity on The Dragon of Fortune|Geronimo Stilton because it had less words then any other novel books. On page 1 there was 66 words, on page 2 there was 99 words, and on page 3 there was 62 words. The onomatopoeia (e.g zzzzzzzz) counted as well. Out of all activities this was the best so far.

Book Week Activity 4|Alphabet Key|Titles of Books
Today for one of the Book Week Activities I was to create a Google Document with a Alphabet Key. I was to write titles of books that started with each letter of the alphabet. For example if the letter was 'I' I was to think of a book title that started with I (As you can see I have written I Spy). In my perspectives I think this task was a bit difficult than the other activities because I couldn't think of any book titles that started with x, y, and z.

Book Week Activity 3|Signals needed in a library
For Book Week I have done one of the activities which was to create a DLO showing what signs should be in a library. As you can see I have added the simple one which are no shoes inside the library, not eating or drinking, no running, and no shouting. I think the top two most important ones are no shouting and no running. Why? Because the library is a quiet place and to be quiet you are not to make any loud sounds such as shouting or running.

Book Week Matrix|Author Interview
As one of the MI Matrix activities for Book Week I was to write down a couple of questions that I would say if I was to interview an author. It was pretty hard to figure what kinds of questions to say to an author. My favorite questions I would ask to an author is: Who is your favorite Author besides yourself? My best author is David Walliams because how he writes the first part of the story hooks me in.
Book Week Matrix|2 Different Types Of Book|Venn Diagram
As part of Book Week (which was last week) we were to pick one of the MI Matrix Book Week challenges. There were different types of amazing challenge such as draw a setting from a book you have read or create a 'rap' to create reading. Miki and I have decided to do the activity where we make a Venn diagram showing two different book we like. Miki choose Bad Guys and Billionaire Boy. The things that were similar between my book and Miki's book was that the Authors were both Male, they were both written in English, and it's both Fictional books. In my book I have two main character which are Joe and his dad. Miki's book has two main character which are Mr Wolf, Mr Shark, Mr Piranha, and Mr Snake.

Read Theory Progress|2017 & 2018
As part of Reading today LS2 have been making bar graphs of their progression on Read Theory. Some of us did a bar graph which had our 2017 & 2018 progression which is what I did. Read theory is helpful site to learn new words and to help comprehend questions. On my bar graph it shows my progression in February, July, and November in 2017 & 2018. As you can see my bar graph looks like a step which shows how I have highly improved from 2017 and 2018. When I first started in 2017 I was on grade 3 and now I am on grade 11.

Book Week Activity 2|Meerkats|Emily Gravett
Since it is Book week this week one of our task was to create a DLO based on Meerkats. We read a book called Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett. It was interesting because we learnt a lot of fun things about Meerkats but in a fun way. Did you know that Meerkat like eating lizards, spiders, larvae of moths, and even mices. If you don't know who Emily Gravett is she is a English author and also illustrated children book.

Book Week Activity 3|Emily Gravett|Wolves
Today as part of Book Week Mrs Anderson has set another Book Week task for us. First we read one of Emily Gravett's books called Wolves. Everyone enjoyed the book and had a laugh. After reading the book we were to make a DLO based on wolves. We were to make a table: One side which had what we think about wolves and the other side saying what is true about wolves. For example if the myth was Wolves and dogs are related we were to search up if it was true or not and tell why. I really had a fun time doing this. I worked collaboratively with Sanujan.

Tech Reflection|Production Plan of Charity Box
Today was our 5th week of Tech at Tamaki College. Tech at Tamaki College has been going great. In Mr Pineda's group (graphics) we were to finish off our charity box. I have already finished my charity box last week and today my task was to complete a google draw on the steps, materials tools, and the time on creating the charity box. It took me 20 to 30 minutes of painting my charity box which is pretty long. Today I also painted/printed on my t-shirt.

Book Week Activity 1|Favorite Author Bar Graph - Statistic
This week is Book Week. For book week we were splitted into groups. After that we were to answer questions based on books such as: What is your favorite author?, Do illustrations matter? Why?, Do you read the blurb of the book? etc. After answering each questions we were to make a bar or pie graph on one of the questions. I picked the questions: who is your favorite author? We used the information that people wrote on the paper to help us make our bar graph. I wrote all the authors that the student in my class wrote down. After making the bark graph I made a DLO stating what the bar graph shows. On my DLO is explains what most likable author in our class is and the less likable author. I have also included a photo of my favorite Author: David Walliams.

Touch Inter Schools|Manaikalani Cluster
On Tuesday the 13th (which was yesterday) part of the year 5,6,7, and 8 at Panmure Bridge School went down to Dunkirk for the touch Inter Schools. There were 11 schools including us which. The schools that the year 8 yellow team (my team) verse were Tamaki Priarmy, Pt England, Glenn Taylor, and Stone Fields. We manage to beat Tamaki Primary 5-1. We then verse Stonefields which we won 4-2. After that we verse Glenn Taylor and unfortunately we lost 3-2. Our fourth game was against Pt England. Unfortunately we lost 3-0. After our four games we went into cross over. So since we came 3rd in our pool we got to verse the team who came 4th in their pool. Surprisingly we versed our other year 8 team. We all played our hardest, but we won 2-1. We then played for 5th and 6th against Tamaki Primary (second game against them). We won 3-2 against them. I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Ogilvie for making this happen and also for coaching and supervising us.

Armistice Day|Personal Research Challenge Pt 4|Main Disease
For my fourth personal research challenge Sanujan, Miki, Carl, and I worked on a collaborative DLO based on the main disease that happened in WW1. Did you know that the main disease in World War 1 was Trench Foot is a medical condition affecting a person's foot in which the top layer of the skin becomes black and dies which is caused by the wet conditions. Sanujan, Miki, Carl, and I have worked collaboratively together to finish the DLO.

Today for our Personal Research Challenge LS2 was given a task which was to create a question chart about World War 1. What we were to do is write down a variety of questions that we want to know about WW1 on a piece of paper.
After that we were to chose one best question and were to research about it. We've completed our first question and this blog post is about our second question. What Kind Of Food Did Soldiers Eat During WW1? We found out that soldiers eat egg biscuits, bully beef and more. (Also known as Corned Beef). For this task I worked with Sanujan and Renier

Who cooked their food?
Why did the war end at 11:11 of the 11th day of the 11th month?
How long do they train for?
Why was New Zealand part of the Allies?
Why Were The United States Involved In World War 1
Once we've chose the best question. We were to created a DLO and put in the answers we received from researching on it.
Armistice Day|Personal Research Challenge Pt 1
Today for our Personal Research Challenge LS2 was given a task which was to create a question chart about World War 1. Fraidoon (partner) and I have questions such as: How long did soldiers train for?, what kind of food did they?, how many soldiers died from firing squads? etc. The question Fraidoon and I researched more about was: How were soldiers punished for not following their orders? Fraidoon and I have learnt that if soldiers were drunk on post their punishment could be death but it can be tied to a rope for 2 hours. Did you know that soldiers were also sent to court and if they were found guilty for breaking one of the rules they were shot. Being killed and tied by rope wasn't the only punishment. Soldier were also put on cleaning duties meaning they were to clean the dishes and also the toilets which was more worse than cleaning the dishes.

Armistice Day Drawing
This week on Sunday we have a Armistice Day. Today I have drawn an illustration that shows Armistice Day. The reason that I chose just Black and grey is that to show the illustration was old. The hardest thing to draw was the persons lower part of his body. Miki and I have collaboratively worked together to finish this illustration.

P.B.S Armistice Day Commemoration
Today Panmure Bridge held a commemoration for Armistice Day. This marks 100 years, since the first Armistice day. We remember this every year on November the 11th when the guns fell silent. We commemorate this to remember those who fought for their country during World War 1. We were lucky to have a member from the NZ Defense Force join us. During this commemoration I read the prayer at the start of the commemoration, Tiava and Jeremiah (head boy and head girl) read the ode, and Ms Kirkpatrick (deputy principal) read In Flanders Fields.
During the commemoration we were silent for a minute to remember the soldiers who died during World War 1. There were also 3 olive trees planted to represent the past, present, and future. To remember this event poppies with the signature of the students will be placed on the fence in our school. After our commemoration we had the member from the NZ defense force visit our room where he spoke to us about his career. I learnt that we he was 19 when he went to Afghanistan to help out the citizens by looking after the schools, and kids.
Max Gimblett is a New Zealand artist who's art influences people all around the World. He is well known for for his drawings, and paintings. Max Gimblett is famous for painting quatrefoil which is a decorative design of four lobes or leaves. Max has done a lot of painting works based on quatrefoils. Max Gimlet has done an amazing job to make New Zealand a wonderful place with all the quatrefoil shapes on buildings and artwork for example in 2015 there were 7,000 brass quatrefoils that were placed on the outside of St David's Church in Auckland which was known as the Art Of Remembrance. We have studied this work and it inspired our poppy design.

Tech Reflection|Charity Collection Box
Today for tech we were to finish off our charity boxes. Miki and I are the first two to finish our charity boxes so we were asked to complete a DLO with simple questions based on our charity boxes such as: What could you do different to make your charity box better looking? Miki and I answer that we could make our charity box look better by adding more color. Miki's charity box is based on protecting the forest and my charity box is based on helping the homeless. Miki and I have had a lot of fun making our charity boxes.

Armistice Day Collage
Since it's nearly Armistice day we were to make a collage with photos that is based on Armistice day. We were to include photos that has people celebrating Armistice day including soldiers and people from around the country. We put photos of people celebrating from New Zealand, Germany, and Australia. Jack, Fraidoon, and I have made a collage also including newspaper talking about how the war is over. We have worked collaboratively together to finish this off. We have learnt that the Armistice Day was signed on the 11th of November 1918 on the 11th hour. This is signed between the allies of World War 1 and Germany. It was signed at Compiègne in France.

Tech Reflection - Charity Box Design Brief
Today was our 3rd session of Graphics for tech. Our tech teacher was Mr Pineda. Our task today was to complete a document that had the 5w's about our charity boxes. Some of the basic questions are: What are we going to design? What is the design going to be used for? and Why are we making this design? We also started making our Charity box out of cardboard paper. I have designed my charity box by adding a shelter since my charity box is based on the homeless. I have included a shelter because as you know homeless don't have any shelter to live in and they need it. On my charity box I have also included a writing saying Help The Homeless.

Kiwican Reflection
Today was our 3rd session of Kiwican. For Kiwican our topic is Respect. At school we are to respect ourselves, teachers, and other students. For our energizer we played a game called Sensible. This is played within a circle. Ms Paige (kiwi can teacher) put us into number from 1 to 4. Then Ms Paige called out a number and those numbers were to run around the circle and then try and steal the ball that was in the middle of the circle. We were to show respect in this game by not pushing to others and also respecting that there are other around us. After that we talked more about the rules of our school and if we either disagree with or agree with them. People disagreed that drink fizzing is not allowed. I agreed with this rule because fizzy drinks can lead to heart disease and since most students are active during the day and play a lot of sports we should eat and drink healthy. Soon we played Bus Stop for our activity. For this game we were put into groups of 6. Then either Mr Matt (kiwi can teacher) or Ms Paige were to give a letter. For example if the letter was 'L' we were to figure out a boy, girl, animal, food, and color that started with the letter 'L'. It was pretty easy for me since I played this game nearly every day with my siblings. At the end we were given points for showing or having Respect, Participation, Encouragement, Positive Attitude and Teamwork. We got 24.5 points which we are happy of.

Kiwisport Reflection
Today was our 2nd session of Boxing for Term 4. Our coach was Pax Patel. For our warm up game we got into a circle and practiced what we practiced last week which was jab, cross. When jabbing we were to put our hands straight like a vertical line. When cross punching you are to twist your feet which will give you power when you go up for the cross punch. After that we learnt how to hook with our left and right hand. When hooking we were to bend our arm at a 90 degrees Angle, rotate our body, turn our lead foot, bend our knees, and then punch. I learnt that when punching a hand the other is supposed to be kept guarded, so you don't get punched. We then learnt how to uppercut. We did the same process as hook punch, but instead we were to punch upwards. I learnt that every move we do such as: jab, cross, hook, and uppercut we are to always keep always guard our face not matter what punch you are doing. After that we put to practice all of the moves.

Collaborative Comprehension|The Battle of the Somme
This week was collaborative comprehension which means everybody collaborated on the same work instead of in groups. We did this since people were getting tested. For one of the collaborative comprehension activities we were to read the Battle of the Somme event and then answer 10 questions based on the story. One of the questions I answered was: Why did the British army become involved in the Battle of the Somme? The answer was the British army were involved in order to help the French. We were also to give evidence from the story which will back up our answer.
