Information Report - Wright Flyer

Wright Flyer

Introduction

The Wright Flyer plan was the first successful heavier than-air powered aircraft to fly. Its first flight was on December 17, 1903. There were other names like the Flyer 1 and the 1903 Flyer. It’s last flight was on December 17 , 1903.

Who built it?

The Wright Flyer was designed and constructed by the Wright Brothers Wilbur and Orville who were to American Brothers inventors, and aviation pioneers. Orville was the oldest out of both of them which he was born in August, 9 , 1871 in Dayton  Ohio and his brother Wilbur the youngest one was born in April, 16, 1867.

Design

The Wright Brothers Wilbur and Orville built the aircraft in 1903 using giant spruce wood. The wings were made with a 1-in-20 camber. They chose their employee Charlie Taylor to build a new design from scratch, effectively not skilfully made gasoline engine. They used a sprocket chain drive from a bicycle that powered the twin propellers.

Media

The length of the Wright Flyer was 21 feet (6 m) 1 in (6.43 m).
The wingspan of the plane was 40 feet (12 m) 4 in (12.31 m).
The height of the Wright Flyer was 9 feet (3 m) 0 in (2.74 m).
The maximum speed of the plane was 30 mph (48 km an hour). The total distance the wright flyer plane has made was 1,500 feet (0.45km).6

Parts of the aircraft

The rudders are at the back of the Wright Flyer plane. It changes the Yaw. It moves side to side. The rudders are moved surfaces which are controlled by the pilot. The propellers are at the back of the plane as well next to the rudder. The propeller generates thrust. The wing tips are warp to change Roll. It rotates the body of the plane. The propellers of the Wright Flyer plane are long, thin  twisted pieces of wood which spins. These are propellers are at the back of the plane next to the ruddera. The motor(gasoline engine) Drives the propellers. The motor is on one wings which is on the wing at the bottom. The elevators are at the front connected the the Fuselage (body). It changes the pitch which goes up and down. The elevators are a pair of movable wings which are controlled by the pilot. The Fuselage (Body) is at the front of the aircraft connected to the elevator. It Hold things together. It carries the payload as well. The wings of the wright flyer generates lift to make the aircraft go up.

Events - Flight

The wright brothers flew the wright flyer plane 4 times at Kitty Hawk, North California on December 17, 1903. Wilbur's first flight at Kitty Hawk lasted 12 seconds for a total distance of 120 feet (36.5 m). The wright brothers both took turns flying and made a little low altitude flights that day at Kitty Hawk. The last flight at Kitty Hawk was by Wilbur and he went 825 feet high (260 m) in 59 seconds which is much longer than each of the previous flights of 120, 175 and 200 feet high.

L.I: To write an information report / explanation about your Flight self inquiry task.

This week for writing we had to either write a information report or a explanation about our bird , plane or rocket we choose for inquiry. I did a plane and it is called the Wright Flyer. It was designed and constructed by the Wright Brothers Wilbur and Orville. I learnt a lot about the Wright Flyer's plane. It was a bit difficult to right my information report but lucky I had my planning that I did that helped me. I think for next time I should write an explanation text of the Wright Flyer's plane.

Blog Commenting

Today I went on peoples blog and commented on there work they have been doing. I commented on Malakai's , Sanujan's and Fraidoon's blog. I had fun commenting on there work. Nice Job Malakai , Sanujan and Fraidoon.

Transum - Basic Multiplication 3

Today I went on transum and did the Basic Multiplication. I did level 3 which was pretty easy. I think for next time I should do level 4.

Transum - 23 or Bust

Today I played 23 or Bust with my friend malakai. It was first one up to 3. I won the first one. Malakai won the second round. I won the third round. Malakai won the fourth round and I won the 5th round which I got 3 wins and he only got 2 wins, but I think malakai tried his best.

Battle Ships - Battle Sheets

Player 2 - Me

Player 1 - Sanujan

L.I: To investigate coordinates

Today for maths we had played Battle Sheets. The real name is Battle Ships but sins we did on a google sheets we called it Battle Sheets. We had to ply with a partner. I went with Sanujan and I won (yey!). What you had to do was first there were numbers of letters. So there were 2 f's 3 d's 3 c's 4 b's and 5 a's. What we had to do with them was to put on the grid without the other person looking where your putting your ships (the letters are the ships). You are not allowed to where your partner is putting there ships because if they look they will see where you put your ships and they are gonna always shoot your ships. So what you do is put the letter x in any box you want and if it has the red box that's mean you have shot your enemies ship if you get black you have missed you keep on playing until you have shoot all your enemies ships. If you put your x and shot your enemies ship that means that where they have put one of there ships. This is a very cool and fun game to play. I learnt a lot of how to this. I was a bit struggling on where to put the x to try shoot one of Sanujan's ship. I think for next time I should verse another person that challenging maybe my teacher.

Connections

L.I To make connections with prior knowledge

L.I To gather information across texts to form an opinion

Today for reading we had to choose one aviator (I did Amy Johnson) and write down connections between your aviator you choose to Amelia Earhart , Jean Batten , Wright Brothers , and Richard Pearse. We had to do 4 connections but I did more (6 connections).  I had fun dong this. I learnt a lot about Amy Johnson and the other aviators which I know much about. I was a bit struggling on finding connections but I managed to get lots. I think for next time I should do another aviator instead of Amy Johnson maybe a male aviator.

Planning a Report Writing Frame - Wright Flyer - Wright Brothers Wilbur and Orville

Today for reading we had to either plan a information report , narrative or a explanation text about our plane we choose for Inquiry. I did the information report and my plane was the Wright Flyer plane. I had really fun doing this. I was a bit struggling on thinking what to put on my plan but I stall managed to get it done (yey). I learnt a lot of information the Wright Flyer's plan and who build it which is the Wright Brothers Wilbur and Orville. I think for next time I should plan an explanation or a narrative on the Wright Flyer's plane.

Trasnum - Nim - Level 4

Today I went on transum and played nim. I started off with level 4. I did very well. This was really easy.

Blog Commenting

Today I went on peoples blog and commented on there work. I commented on Malaka's , Joseph's and Mataio's blog. They all did a fabulous work.

Key Word Summary - Wright Flyer - Wilbur and Orville

Text: Wright Flyer

Read the text and record key words/phrases that answer these questions:

Who? Wright Brother - Wilbur and Orville

What? They built a aircraft heavier than an air powered aircraft and it was successful.

Where? Kitty Hawk - Near Kill Devil Hills - North California US.

When? The wright brother made their aircraft in 1903. They flew it four times on December 17 1903.

Why? They wanted to prove that they could make an air powered aircraft that they could fly.

How? The Wright Brothers built their aircraft using giant spruce wood. The wings were made with a 1-in-20 camber. A sprocket chain drive, borrowing from a bicycle which powered the twin propellers. Charlie Taylor their employee to build a new design from scratch.

Summarise the text in 25 words:

Today for reading we had to summarise about either a plane , helicopter ,  bird or hot balloon we choose for Inquiry. There were three choices to choose so one was the summary (which I am doing) , one was when inference , and the other one was the Main Idea Summary Frame. As you can see I did the Summary One. I did the Wright Flyer's plane to summarise. It is a plane built and designed by the Wright Brother Wilbur and Orville. We had to use the 5 w's to help us summarise. We had to summarise in 25 words. I had really fun doing this. I learnt a lot about the Wright Flyer's plane. I was a bit struggling on summarising but I stall managed to do it. I think for next time I should do this on another plane maybe the Airbus A380 or the Boeing AH-64.

L.I To investigate 2D and 3D shape.
L.I To understand flip , slide and turn.

Today week for maths we are learning Geometry of shapes. We had to investigate the faces , edges and vertices of an shape. For our must do we had to take pictures of items (shape) and See how many face , Edges and Vertices (corners) the item (shape) we choose got. This was really fun. I learnt what vertices is. I thought vertices was something else but it was actually another word for corners. I was a bit struggling on how many edges there were on some items but I stall managed to do it. I think for next time I should should just take pictures of 3D shapes.

Prototec

Today I played prototec. I did stage 6. It was pretty east for me. The easiest one was the addition to 20 and subtraction to 20. I had fun doing this. I was a bit sttuggling on the other ones (time tables and division to 2 3 5 and 10) but I stall managed to get it done and get 10 out of 10.

L.I To investigate units of measurement

For our maths must do we had create our own map and measure 5 different places we would like to visit to. We had to start from Panmure Bridge School than carry on some other places that we want to go to. This was really fun. We had to measure how many km , cm , mm , and m it is from the countries we choose to measure. I was a bit struggling on making this map but I stall managed to get it done. I think for next time I should I should do ten places instead of 5.

Blog Commenting

Today I blogged on Malakai's and Koloa's blog. They both did well. I hope they finish all they work before Friday. Well done Koloa and Malakai you both have done a fabulous job. Keep up with the great work.

Amelia Earhart & Jean Batten - Timeline

L.I To scan for key information.
L.I To scam texts for general ideas.

Today for reading I had to write a timeline on Amelia Earhart and Jean Batten. I decided to work with Angari again and Koloa. We communicated among each other to get this done. We worked hard and finished it. This time I have learnt a lot about Amelia Earhart. I was a bit struggling on doing Amelia Earhart's timeline but I stall managed to get it done with some help of Angari and Koloa. I think for next time I should do a different aviator not the Wright Brothers or Richard Pearse maybe Alan Cobham who flied corps in World War 1 or maybe Jimmy Doolittle who was an American aviation pioneer.
