Word Web

L.I To find related words

Today for Reading we had to a Can Do. I did word webs.  I read a text called Awarua: The Tanaiwha of Porirua. I found two words that I was unsure of which was Reluctant and Emerge. I had to find Synonyms and Antonyms and also the meaning of the word. This was really fun. I learnt what reluctant and emerge mean. Reluctant means Now willing to do something and slow to do it as well. Emerge means to show by coming out of something or out from behind something. I thing that was difficult for me was getting the synonyms and antonyms because there was barely not that much. I think for next time I should

Transum - Basic Multiplication - Level 3

Today for maths I did went on Transum went on Basic Multiplication. I did level 3. This was easy for me. I did this very easily. I learnt my Basic Multiplication doing this. I didn't struggle on anything. I didn't need to stop very long to answer the equations. I think for next time I should try level 4 and then go more higher maybe to level 6 or 7. If I am good at that and do good on all the level I should go and do my Basic Division , or my Basic Subtraction. This will test how good I am.

Maths Word Problem

L.I To comprehend word problems
L.I To choose "the best" strategy to solve the problem.

Four Wakatipu's maths's group we had to make 2 of our own word problems. We needed to be able to solve the word problem using our strategies. The word problems needed to be multi step. We were not allowed to use a calculator. I had fun doing this. I comprehended my word problems very easily. I was a bit struggling on trying to make my own word problems, but I stall managed to do it (yey!). I think for next time I should improve in making a more complicated and better word problems.

The parachute goes wrong

One misty morning Ash went to the Casino and did not have anyone to compete against in the Gin Rummy until his luck changed and he found someone sitting by himself. Ash walked towards the lonely man, and  offered him a game of Gin Rummy. The lonely man introduced himself and accepted Ash’s invitation. Ash introduced himself and gave Johnson his phone number. He also gave him his address. Ash said to Johnson “you look famous”. After introducing themselves they both approached the Gin Rummy table. Before playing both of them said if one of them wins the game the person who loses has to give the person who wins $3,000 dollars. They both shook hands to make the deal.
They played until one of them gets up to 300 points. Ash looked at Johnson while Johnson was dealing out the cards. They played, and played. Ash gave Johnson $3,000 dollars. The fury of Ash’s face dimmed the room and his eyes looked like the fire from hell. Ash punched the guy next to him, that he had to go to the hospital. Ash put a smile upon his face, and pretended he was happy. Ash wanted to kill Johnson to get his money back. Ash had a plan. Ash said to himself "I'm gonna get this guy".

Ash said to Johnson “would you like to go parachuting?”. Johnson answered “yes of course”. Johnson said he would go and get his new and gleaming helicopter to parachute from there. Ash went to get his helicopter, while Johnson was going to pack some food for them. Parachuting was one of Ash’s favourite hobbies. They went near a sea. Ash told Johnson “you can go first”. Before Johnson went down Ash cut the string of Johnson’s parachute, and as Johnson went he was flying in big circles.  Ash was laughing , and laughing.  Johnson yelled “help help. Somebody help me”.

Ash flyed away , and went with Johnson's money. Johnson was very anxious, and afraid that he was going to die. Johnson prayed to god. He shouted “please god help me”. Johnson went flying in bigger and bigger circles. He was getting a headache. He went lower and lower. He felt the ocean. He was drowning, and he was asking for was shouting “help help”. Johnson drank a lot of water, and he was coughing a lot of times. He also had a lot of water that had went inside his and he didn’t hear anything. Johnson poked his index finger into his ear to try and get the water out but he couldn’t.

He was shouting and shouting for help until he saw a blue and white shiny helicopter, which sad amtrak police. He waved and waved to the helicopter. The helicopter came closer and closer to him. Johnson knew it was coming to him. He was very happy and thrilling.
The helicopter pilot put down the ladder, for Johnson to hop on the helicopter. Johnson climbed, and climbed.

As he got to the helicopter the pilot said “what happened”. Johnson didn’t say anything because he couldn’t hear anything from the water that was inside his ears. Ash said thank you to the pilot. As they flew all the water from Johnson’s ears came out. They flew to the amtrak police station and Johnson told the policeman what had happened.

Johnson told the police the story, and told him about the man who tried to kill him. The policeman looked at Ash’s profile to see where he lives. As he saw his profile there was nothing on except for a picture of him. The policeman said “that’s strange”. Johnson remembered that Ash gave him his phone number and his address. He got it out and it was all  muggy, but the policeman could stall see the address.

Johnson and the policeman went to Ash’s house. The policeman knocked on the door. Ash opened the door. Ash’s eyes was wide opened like he was looking at the scariest and hideousness men ever. The policeman said to Ash in a angry voice “do you have something to tell me”. Ash was scared. Johnson was laughing.

Ash told him, and he was imprison for 20 years. Johnson got back his money that he earned, and he went back home. With that money Johnson had bought him a mansion which had 2 garages , 4 toilets , 6 bedrooms , 2 kitchens, 1 massive lounge, new car which was called the Hennessey Venom GT and a new dog.

L.I To use a variety of simple, compound, and complex sentences.

Today for our writing Must Do we had to edit our narrative story from last term into simple, compound, and complex sentences. I learnt what a simple, compound, and a complex sentence are. A simple sentence is a sentence that has only one verb as in "Sam climbed the tree". A compound sentence is a sentence made from two independent sentences joined by "and", "or", or", "but", as in "Greg punched and Grant kicked." A complex sentence is a sentence a sentence that has someone doing something and then extra information that doesn't make sense by it's self as in "Friadoon kick the soccer ball, while making looking at the crowd.

Emoticon Story

L.I : To infer information about characters in a text.

Today for our Reading we had to skim through a text called Oops. After that we had to list characters in the text while reading. Four our Reading Must Do we had to Choose one character from the text and infer the feelings they had in the text. We also had to put emoticons to show their feelings as well. After that we had to make a new interview pretending to be the character we choose and had to tell the feelings we had in the story. For that we had to do in groups of 3. I was a bit unsure what to say in the news interview, but I stall managed to do it. I think for next time I should pick a character with more feelings in the story or other stories because I think it will be more better.

Click the link below if you the one on the google drawing one doesn't work.

The News Interview

Migration - Aztec

The last past two days Fraidoon (classmate) , Jeremiah (classmate) , and I has been finishing off our inquiry. What we had to do was we had to pick a migration in history to study about. Our one was Aztec Migration. We had to research about it to answer the questions we were given. One of our questions we were given was When did the migration occur? I learnt that the Aztecs people were sure honorable groups of central Mexico. I was a bit struggling on finding video of the Aztec migration because there hardly any videos, but I stall managed to get one. I think for next time Fraidoon , Jeremiah , and I should of put more effort into our work.

Transum - Addle

Today for maths I went on transum and played addle. What I had to do was I had to put the numbers that I was given (mixed numbers) and had to equal it to the numbers 21 , 16 , 16 , and 52. This took me only 50 seconds to finish it. I think I did well. I was a bit struggling on the last one because it was a large number, but I stall managed to do it. I think for next time I should do it more faster to beat my time.

Blog Commenting

Today I took some time to comment on other peoples work.  I commented on 6 peoples blogs. I commented on Tai's , Affonso's , Jericho's , Tiava's , and Angela's. I learnt a lot from commenting on people's blog. All of these people did a great job of finishing work, but had a few mistakes. I was a bit struggling on thinking what to say to them. I think for next time I should comment on other people's from other schools.

Inquiry - Animal Migration

For Inquiry today we were focusing on animal migration. What we had to do first was we had to get into groups of 3. After that in our groups we had to go on padlet and list down as many animal we think that migrates or have migrated. Animals that migrated in New Zealand we had to make it bold and italic. Soon we had to write down some information/facts about Godwits around the image that the Godwits migrate around. Soon after doing that we had to choose an animal that migrates was and create a image/map of their migration. We also had to answer Why do they migrate? and How far and how often does it happen?. My animal that I choose was a Salmon. I learnt that Godwits can fly about 12 000 km at one time (wow!) and that as they fly they use up the fat they have a plus some of their muscle tissue. I was a bit struggling on creating my image/map of my animal's migration. I think for next time I should focus on writing more New Zealand animals that migrate than other animals that are not New Zealand animals that migrate.

Strategy Place Mat - Word Problems

L.I To comprehend word problems

L.I To choose the ''best'' strategy to solve the problem
Today for our maths session we looked at some word problems. We looked at some word problems and had to show our strategy on how we go the answer. For our Must Do we had to pick two word problems and write down what is the question asking us to do for example Emily had $300 dollars for her birthday and she gave $100 dollars to his brother John to buy his new bike he wanted for years. The answer is asking us to subtract my clue is that it says gave which means something was given away. We also had to have 2 strategy having the same answer. After that some else had to check and reflect our work. It was a bit difficult to choosing which world problem I should do because there were a lot that was very good. I think for next time I should do harder word problems because I think these word problems were to easy.

Migration - Push & Pull Factor

This term for inquiry our topic is Migration. In this task we had to write down what a Push and Pull factor is. We also had to make a info graphic on Push Factor and Pull Factor. We also had to write about what would pull people to New Zealand  and what would push people from New Zealand. I did this with Tiava , Jericho and San Kyaw. We had fun doing this. I learnt that a Push Factor is a negative aspect that motivates one to leave their country and a Pull Factor is when Something that attracts people to go and live in a particular place. I was a bit struggling on thinking of some reasons to why people would go out from New Zealand which is the Push Factor , but I stall managed to get some ideas with my groups help. I think for next time we should make a more better info graphic.

Free Rice - English Grammar

Today I went on a website called Free Rice English Grammar. For each answer I get right I donate 10 grains of rice to the Unites Nations World Food Program. You play until you get how many grains of rice you would like to donate. Today I donated 2,000 grains of rice (wow!!!!) . I was a bit struggling when the answers were starting to get harder. I think for next time I should try and earn more grains of rice. My goal is to get 4,000 grains of rice next time.

Narrative Editing

 Before Editing

After Editing

L.I To write narrative paragraphs using Topic sentence , Details , Concluding sentence.

Today for our Writing Must Do had to take screenshots of our narrative from last weeks. We had to a screen of our narrative before editing and after editing. We used TEE (which stands for Title , Events , Ending) to put our story in paragraphs. I learnt that a Narrative is a past tense story that means something that already happened. I was a bit struggling on putting my story into paragraphs.

Inference detectives: Looking for clues

L.I To learn what inferring is.

For our Reading Must Do we were given a worksheet. In that worksheet it had 3 short stories. What we had to do was we had to infer about who the character might be , what kind of person the character is , How the character is feeling at that moment/time and why , and where and when this action is taking place. I also had to write the definition for attire and remote (not the remote you use for watching television). Doing this I learnt how to infer. I was a bit struggling on the third story because it had words that I was unsure of. I think for next time I should describe the character in the three story's better because I think I didn't describe them well by using more better words like happy I could put as thrilled which is another word for happy.

I answered questions like Addition to 20 , Subtraction to 20 , addition and subtraction to 1000 , and multiplication and division equations as well. I had fun doing this. I was timed to do this and my time was 2 min and 34 sec. I think for next time I should try and get all the answers right and try to get less timed.
