Prototec - Basic Facts Maths Practice 1.91

Today for maths I did one of the can do's which was Prototec. In this maths game I had to answer equations.First before doing anything we had to write our name , what class we are in and had to pick a stage/level we would want to do. I did stage/level 6. There were Addition to 20 , Subtraction to 20  2 , 3 , 5 , 10 divide and multiplication and addition and subtraction to 1000 equations. I was very struggling on doing the addition and subtraction to 1000 but I stall managed to get them all right. I think for next time I should beat my time which was 3 minutes and 1 second. My goal next time is to get 2 minutes.

Reading DLO - Comets - Explanation

L.I To summarise

Today for Reading our must do task was use the template just above and had to take screen shoots of what we did for Reading , What the point of the article was , Explain what we did for Reading and give a example. I learnt from Reading the book that Comets travel in from the outside edge of the solar system and that every time a comet travels around the sun some of it's icy material starts to evaporate. I was very struggling on answering the questions that were related to text and explaining what a timeline was.

Comets - Find, Draw, Animate, Act

L.I To summaries
L.I To find and make examples of words

This week for our Reading session we had to skim and skan through a text Called Comet.  After reading the text we had to go in groups of 3-4 and share out words that were were unsure of and give a short definition of what the word means. Our Must Do Task was to use Find, Draw, Animate, and Act (This process that our teach Mr Wong made) for the words we were struggling on. We were given one word each and we had to either find a image of the word , Draw the word, Animate the word or Act the word. For example my word I was given was Orbit. I Act it. How I act was I had one person as the Sun and had 5 people (includes me) around the son being the orbit. I learnt that a Orbit is a Curve Path that an Object in space moves around. In

Column Method

L.I To add and subtract numbers using the column method.
L.I To check our answers using other methods.

Today for maths our Must Do Task was to go on Transum and play Basic Subtraction 4 (2 digit numbers) and 5 (3 digit numbers). After that we had to screenshots of both games and get one equation from each game and had to solve it by using the column method and then after using other methods to solve the equation out. I learnt that using the column method in maths is the method where numbers are carried and borrowed. I was a bit struggling on playing the Basic Subtraction 5 game but I stall managed to get it finish. I think for next time I should challenge myself by timing how fast I use the Column Method just to check how good I am at using the Column Method.

Poetry

L.I To use a range of vocabulary to create a picture in the reader's head.

This week for Writing we did our lesson as a whole class instead of doing it in our groups. For writing we worked on writing a Poetry using Nouns , Verbs , Adjectives , and Adverbs words. For our writing session we were divided into groups of four and had to cooperate with each other in our groups the meanings for a Noun , Verb , Adjective and a Adverb. After that in our groups we had to write down 2 examples of a Noun , Verb , Adjective and Adverb. Soon we wrote a Poetry together in our groups using the Noun , Verb , Adjective and Adverb words we wrote down. Our writing Must Do Task was to write a Poetry by our selves using the same process we used in our groups. I learnt that a adjective is a word that describes a noun or pronoun. I was very struggling on picking words that will fit my poem to make it good. I think for next time I should find more catching and better words.

Olympic - Trainning

Today for Inquiry we got moved to different groups. I got moved to Mr Orgivelles group which is Training. Our first task was to define What Physical Activity is. So we had to find images of Physical activities we know, so it could build us a picture/definition of what being active or physical activity means. We had to attribute the images we put into our slides as well so we know if we have permission to use the person who took the pictures. We also had to introduce the 3 areas of training or Physical Activity so within the same slide we had to create a slide for Strength , Endurance and Agility. We had to attribute as many images under the three areas. We were also needed to write down a definition of what Physical Activity is and list as many Olympic Sports Under the three areas/titles. I learnt that Physical Activity is any body movement that works your muscles and requires more energy than resting. Examples of Physical Activity: Walking , running ,  dancing , swimming , yoga.  I also learnt what the three areas/titles mean. So Endurance means the ability to keep doing something difficult , unpleasant , or painful for a long time. Agility means the ability to move about quickly and easily and Strength means the ability to do things that need a lot of physical or mental effort. I was struggling on attributing the images even do I have done it a lots of times. I think for next time I should list more Olympic Sports than possible under the three areas/titles because I think it is not enough.

Column Method

L.I Add and Subtract using column method.

This week for our maths session we were given one thousands dollars (fake money). We had to choose with our partners what we would want to buy with our one thousand dollars (fake money). I choose to buy a T.V. and my partner Sanujain choose to buy a Xbox one. We pretended that Harvey Norman didn't give change so that meant we had to give the right amount of money for what we wanted to but from Harvey Norman. After that we had to make a price for the things we wanted to buy. Soon we had to equal both of our prices and had to solve it by using the column method. So today for maths Mr Orgivelles groups, had to go on Transum and go on basic addition 4 (2 digit numbers) and basic addition 5 (3 did numbers). After that we had to take a screenshot of both games and solve at least one equation from each game using the Column Method.

Toy Advertisement

L.I To create your own advertisement (brochure)

In this task I had to make my own advertisement/Brochure using the toys our teacher Mr Wong picked. I included a lot of different text styles and shapes. I found it hard Thinking which colors I should put to fit my advertisement/brochure. I think next time I should think where I should put my shapes and texts and to also choose good color to make it look a bit better. I learnt that the language features of a persuasive text are Repeated Words , Emotive Language, Rhetorical Questions , Personal words, which some language features are in my Advertisement/Brochure.

How to make a Non-Polluting Car - Explanation

L.I. To find the most important (main) idea in a text.
For reading In this task we had to make a DLO explaining what the text (How to make a Non-Polluting Car) we were reading was about, What we did for the past two weeks in Reading, give an example and also had to take screen shoots of the text, the questions we answered before and after the text, and the words we were struggling on. By reading this text I learnt that making a Non-Polluting Car you are needed a Milk Carton, Cardboard or Plastic lids, Two Pencils with flat sides, Scissors, Rubber band, Ballpoint Pen, Compass, Hole Punch, and a thick cardboard. I was very struggling on thinking what the text was, if it was a Persuasive, Narrative, Recount, Information Report, Procedural, or a Instructional text. I think for next time for me I should add more information into my work to make it more detailed.

Modern and Ancient Olympics

L.I. Compare and contrast the ancient Olympics games with the modern Olympics games.

Today for inquiry Pote, Fraidoon, and I finished our Ancient and Modern Olympic Task. Before doing anything we had to write our prior knowledge what we know about Ancient and Modern Olympics. After that we had to attributed images. We attributed two images of ancient Olympic and two pictures of modern Olympic. After attributing images soon we had to write down words from A to Z relating to Olympics. For W we did Water Polo. After that we wrote facts about Modern and Ancient Olympics and also made a Venn diagram comparing the difference and similarities of Modern and Ancient Olympic. (Ancient Fact) I learnt that Ancient Olympics were regarded as a religious festival dedicated to Zeus defeating his father, Kronos. (Modern Fact) I also learnt that since the 1904 Olympics, medals are awarded in each event with gold medals for first place, silver for second place , and brownse for third place. What I was struggling on was finding words from A to Z that was related to Olympics.

Rocket Ship Blast Off

Today for maths, Mr Orgivelle groups had to play a game called Rocket Ship using the Place Value House Number Columns which are the Ones Column, Tens Column, and the hundreds Column. First you have to roll the dice and for example if you get a nine you have to put it in one of the Ones, Tens and hundreds column boxes. You don't put it in any boxes, you have to think where you put it because the number has to go smallest to biggest like, 201, 403, 506, 578, 993. Our learning was to apply our Place Value Knowledge.

Today for maths We had to play a game called Rocket Ship using the ones collum, tens collum , and the hundreds collum.

Word Webs - Synonys and Antynoms

L.I: To find related words
Today for Reading, Ruapehu group read a text called How To Make a Non-Polluting Car. After reading the text we had to right down all the words we were struggling on a piece of paper and find out the Definition/Meaning. I learnt that Prohibited means Not Allowed for example when you go to the swimming you are Prohibited from Diving or Bombing in the Swimming Pool and also learnt words that relate to Prohibited like Banned, Forbidden or Proscribed. I was really struggling on learning what the words means. I think for next time I should write the Definition/Meaning on each word just in case someone needs more information to really get  what the words mean.

Current Events:6 Hats - Hurricanes win first Super Rugby title

L.I: Use De Bono's thinking hats to critically examine a current event.

Today for reading I did Current Events (reading activity). What I had to do was I had to go on Kiwi Kids News pick a article read it, and use the De Bono's thinking hats to critically examine a current event. I learnt how to use the De Bono's thinking hats to critically examine a current event and also learnt how the Hurricanes win their game. I was struggling on the words that I didn't understand. I think next time I have to learn what the words I was struggling on mean so when I read books, magazine or a article if it has the word in it I would know what it means/defection and I could even tell other people (just incase they don't know what the word mean)what it means and give a example.

Place Value House

L.I To use the Place Value House to solve equations.

Today for Maths we had to make a DLO using the Place Value House to solve Addition and Subtraction equations. Solving these equations we had to write little description showing what's happening. We also had to have another way to solve our subtraction and addition equations. I learnt how to move numbers left or right and learnt how to solve subtract and add equations by using my own strategy.

Language features of advertising

Today for writing we had to make a Google presentation writing the Persuasive writing Language Features which includes Repeated Language, Emotive Language/Image, Personal Words, or Rhetorical questions. After that we had choose either, the Lego friends site, EB games site (The one I used) , Hot wheels site to take screenshots of how the site convinces people to buy their products. I learnt about the four Language Features and how to use them. I was very good at searching for repeated languages using the EB games site.

Neighbour Niggles: Mr and Mrs Fitz - Explanation

Learning Intention: To find the most important (major/main) idea in a text.

Today for Reading we had to make a DLO explaining what we had did for the pass two weeks, Give a example, and explain what the text was about. From reading this text I have learnt a lot of new words and now know the meaning and I also learnt what kind of text it was and what was the main idea in the text was as well.

The Modern and Ancient Athletes Diet - Olympics

LI: to find out what modern Olympic athletes eat.

LI: to compare an ancient Olympic athlete’s diet with a modern Olympic athlete’s diet.

Today for Inquiry ( Topic : Olympic ) We did challenge 4. For this task we had to get pictures of one Modern (Now) Athlete and One Ancient (Old) Athletes diet (What they Eat) and see the similarities between an Ancient athlete and a Modern athlete diet. It seems like more Ancient Olympics Athletes eat more Protein than Modern Athletes. For the Modern athlete I did Michael Phelps (Swimming) and for The Ancient athlete I did Milo O Croton (Boxer).
