Te Reo Maori|Te Huarere

Today was our 3rd session for Maori for term 4. For today's session we made a DLO writing down the weather in Maori. We wrote what the weather was on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. So on Sunday it was cloudy, on Monday it was raining, on Tuesday it was also raining, but on Wednesday it was nice sunny day. To make our DLO more appealing we were to put pictures of what the sentences meant. So if it was raining we were to put a picture of a raining day in Auckland (Tamaki Makaurau).

Reading Theory|Level 11

Today at home I went on read theory and I finally achieved my goal by reaching leveling 11. As I was on level 10 I tried my best getting all their answers. I read all questions and got all of it right. I can't wait to red Primacy and Recency. In my perspectives I think I'm not get pass this level, but at least I've tried my best getting to a higher level.

The Highwayman|Simile & Metaphor

This week for reading Mrs Anderson's group have been focusing on the poem, the Highwayman. The Highwayman was set in the 18th century (1700's) and was written Alfred Noyes. For today's task we were to make a DLO explaining what a similie and a metaphor is. We were also to put examples of simile and metaphors from the poem. An example of a similie from the Highwayman poem is: Down like a dog on the highwayman. I know this is a similie because it has the word like. A similie is a statement comparing someone or an object with another which includes the words 'as' or 'like'.

The Feathered Hunter|5 - 7 - 10

resource image

Today for Writing Ms Kirkpatrick have set a task for us. This task was to choose our own picture from pobble 365 and write a narrative to go with the picture. I picked the Feathered Hunter which is a picture of an owl trying to catch it's prey. This story was actually about an owl getting hunted but then I tried making a twist by doing the opposite. I have written a story about an owl who tried catching it's prey (eagle). The eagle doesn't know he was getting chased, but then he noticed so he tried hiding. But at the end he was eaten by the ravenous owl. If you would like to read my whole story click here.

Week 2 Technology - Graphics

Today was our second session of graphics for term 4. We didn't have Mr Pineda in so we had Mr McKenzie-Brown who is an English teacher in Tamaki College. Today since Mr Pineda wasn't here we were to finish off coloring and drawing our charity boxes. My charity box is based on helping the homeless so I have phrases such as Donate, Help the homeless,  and Please donate $1. I've also added a home/shelter which symbolizes that homeless people need shelter. I've nearly finished coloring and going to put together my charity box.

Kiwisport - Boxing

Today was our first session of Kiwisport. For Kiwisport this term we have Boxing. Our coach was Pax. Before doing any kind of activity or exercise we were to learn her 3 Commandment/rules. Those commandments were respect, discipline, and be safe. We have to respect others around us and also respect the equipment, we have to be discipline meaning being responsible for our own actions and also being humble at all times, and the last commandments is to be safe in the environment around us. Another rule that was stated is that if one person mucks around the whole group gets the punishment . After talking about the rules and commandments we started off with a warm up. For this warm up we were to partner up with a buddy and then either partner 1 or 2 (we were to pick who was number 1 and 2) was to try and touch their partners knees. It was hard for me because Julian (my partner) was a very competitive person, but at the end I won. The rules were, if you were tagged on the knee you were to a bur-pee. We then changed it to tagging the shoulder. This was pretty easy since we didn't need to bend down. Soon, Pax taught us the stunt in boxing which she called the rock. Basically all you had to do is put one leg forward and one leg back. Then you were to go down like you were doing the haka. This will help you balance properly. We then learnt a move called Jab-Cross. We were to jab with our left hand and cross with our left hand. I learnt that when you cross you have to twist your right leg so you don't go falling when cross punching. I enjoyed today's session and can't wait for next weeks session. Thank you to Pax for coaching us and Mrs Anderson for joining and supervising us.

Maths Problem - Radius & Diameter

Today we played the Radius and Diameter game on Khad Academy and we were to make a DLO with three of the problems and explain how we solved the three questions. For one of the questions it says: If the radius is 7.5 what is the diameter. This was pretty easy because all you had to do was times 7.5 by 2. The answer was 15. There were 2 others that we explained in our DLO. If you don't know what the radius and the diameter is well the radius is half the circle and the diameter is times the radius. I have worked together with Carl and Miki to create this DLO.

Converting Fractions Into Decimals|Extra for Experts

Today for maths we played a game which was for people who have finished their work. This game was called Puppy Chase Fractions to Decimals. This game was pretty easy because all you had to do was convert the fractions into decimals. If you got the right answer your puppy would move forward. This was a race so I tried my best to get all answers right. At the end I cam second. The only questions I missed was what is 8/24 in decimals.

Radius and Diameter

Today for math we were learning about radius, diameter and circumference. It was quite easy to answer because I've already learn a bit about this activity. The radius is the half of the circle and diameter is the half of the circle x2. The circumference is the measurement of the whole circle. I really enjoyed the game we played based on Radius and Diameter. One of the questions were if the radius is 3 what is the diameter. The answer is obviously 6 because you double the radius to get the diameter.

The Highwayman Summary

For reading this week and for next week Mrs Anderson reading group have been studying an old poem called the Highwayman. It was written by Alfred Noyes and was set in the 18th century (1701 - 1800) in the countryside in England. This poem talks about a the relationship between Highwayman (A highwayman is a man who rides a horse and carries guns also stealing from other people) and a landlord's daughter. It is a interesting poem but sadly at the end of the both the Highwayman and Bess (landlord's daughter) die. For our reading task we were to create a DLO with a summary about the Highwayman poetry. We read the poem and for each paragraph we talked to our group about the paragraph and what it talks about. If you would like to listen the poem on you tube click here

Community Service Rubbish Clean Up

Today the P.B.S school leaders walked along Dunkirk road to clean up our community area. We went along with Miss Page (Kiwi Can Tutor) and Jordan (Social Worker). We weren't the only ones picking up rubbish. Glenn Taylor, Tamaki Primary, and Glen Brae also picked up rubbish. This was a good opportunity for us to make our community area clean. To not mix up the recyclable and the plastic rubbish we had two different bags. The place that had the most rubbish was Dunkirk park. We found a lot of beer cans (especially Cody's) and fizzy can's (a lot of mountain drew). There were so much rubbish that our bags were full and we didn't even get half way of our journey. At the end all schools meet up at Pt England reserve for sausage sizzle. We also played a couple of sports such as touch, soccer, and bats down. A huge thank you to Graeme Dingle Foundation for letting us partake in this event and to Lion foundation for providing us with the lunch.

Niue Language Week

This week is Niue Language week and for it we were asked to make an informative DLO about the language of Niue. In this DLO Fraidoon, Alex and I have included the days of the week in Niue, months, fruits, animals, numbers, and also some saying. All three of us enjoyed Niue Language Week. At the end when were finished our DLO we made a screencastify translating the Niuean language into English. I've learnt that Lanuali is January and Hana is Corn. I found this interesting because the words sound similar to the Tongan phrases.

Tech Reflection - Analysis Chairty Collection Box

For reflection we had a third task which was to plan our charity box and how it would look like. In this analysis it includes what our letters are going to look like what slogan were going to use and also shapes for our charity box. As you can see I've decided to make my charity box about homeless so my slogan is "sharing is caring". The colors I'm going to use in my charity box is red, yellow, white, orange, and blue.

Tech Reflection - 3D Shape Game

Today for tech Mr Pineda (tutor teacher) set a game based on 3D shapes. Examples of 3D shapes are cuboid, sphere, cone prism etc. For this activity there 3 games and for one of the game we were to see how many faces, edges, and vertices there were in the shape given. For example if the questions says how many vertices does a cuboid the answer will of course be 8. There are lives in this game and if you get a incorrect answer you loose 1 life. There is a maximum of 4 lives. I really enjoyed this game and hope to play it again next time.

Tech Reflection - Art

Today was our first session of art for Term 4. Today were to finish off coloring or drawing our charity box. My charity box is based on helping the homeless. In my charity box I have written things based on homeless such as: Donate, Share The Love, Help The Pore etc. I have done my charity box based on helping the homeless because how many homeless people living in Auckland (800 homeless people).

That Was Winter|Poem

For writing this week Ms Kirkpatrick's group have been focusing on poems. First we read a poem called That Was Summer. For this task we were to look for three important elements which were the language features, Interesting Vocabulary and the verbs. In this poem I found a lot of verbs such as running, flopped, climb, holding, stood, and walk. This poem basically talks about what happens during summer and it also uses the 5 senses which is smell, touch, sight, sound, taste. After reading this poem we were to write our own version of the poem but talking about winter. In my poem I wrote what I usually do in winter which is drink hot chocolate, sleep in bed with loads of blankets, and also watch T.V and eat soup. We were also to illustrate our poem like it was a Journal book. If you would like to read the, That Was Winter poem click here.

Maths - Rounding Decimals Soccer Game

Today for maths Ms Kirkpatrick group have been solving decimal point equations such as 34.4 x 2 or 2.4 + 2.6. We were to fill out a form with 24 questions 6 being addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I found addition the easiest and division the hardest. After filling out the form and getting it checked (I got all answers correct besides 1) we were to go on a soccer game based on rounding decimals(e.g - round 36.96 to the nearest whole number). It was pretty easy and hope to play another game based on rounding decimals. As you can see there is a red team (me) and the blue team (random). I beat the blue team 11 - 0 which was surprising.
