Kiwi Sport - Circus

This week for Kiwi Sport (For Kiwi Sport this year the seniors are doing Run , Jump , Throw ,) We did a circus and there were 5 activities to do which was Discus Roll (Had to roll the discuss through two cones) , Hoop Throw (Had to use a hoop and use the discuss techniques to make the hoop go over the pole), Long Jump (We had to take a two footed take off from the line that was there and land as far as can and had to mark the back of the heel), Shot Put (We had to Push (throw) the ball so it land in the hoop), and Sprints (We had to run as many 50m hurdles shuttle as possible in 1 minute). First we got spit in to groups (There were 5 groups) . We were given a piece of paper that showed all 5 activities we were going to do and also the points. I learnt how to throw a Shot Put which is to stand side on , dirty fingers , clean palm , dirty neck , chin , knee, toe all in a row and Low to high watch it fly. I was a bit struggling on activity 2 (Hoop Throw) because I had to use the discuss technique which I didn't know that much. My favorite activity was the sprints which I did 6 runs in 1 minute, but I think for next time I should do more.

  2. We will go around the world and scare people.
  3. Make s’mores so he can melt the marshmallows and chocolate.
  4. Eat healthy food.
  5. We will go around the world and bust buildings.

Today I went on Story Starters and spinned the scrambler. I had to list five things I would do if I met a fat dragon who travels all over the world. I was a bit struggling on thinking of ideas of what I would do if I met a dragon who is fat and who travels around world. I think for next time I should a harder combination.

Independent Reading Tasks - Starting With Strings

This week for reading we were given 5 text, but we had to only pick one. There were 6 task to do after and before reading the text like predicting is was one and Summarising was one. I completed 4 task which was Tell the future (means predicting what going to happen in the text),Alternate Title and Cover page (Making a new title and cover page),Text type (finding out what the text type is for example narrative is a text type), and  Audio book Narrator (Using any recording sites and recording ourselves narrating the text we are reading). We had to at least do 4 task. I was a bit struggling on thinking for a new title. I think for next time I should do all 6.

Usain Bolt

This week for inquiry we had to research an 2016 Olympic Athlete (I choose Usain Bolt). We had to pick an athlete and use the answer the 5 w's about them. We also had to go deeper so we had to ask more what questions or why questions. I learnt that Usain Bolt has nine gold medals (WOW!!) during his career. I was a bit struggling on researching why questions about Usain Bolt, but I stall managed to get one. I think for next time I should do athletes that is already passed away.

Strategies - Multiplication

L.I To teach the Korean Method.
L.I To investigate the 3 multiplication strategies.

For our maths session all of Mr Ogilvie Groups Wakatipu , Taupo and Wanaka had to get into one group of 3 which there had to be one person from each maths group to be in a group of 3. After that we had to show and explain our Method that we did in our groups the past previous weeks. Our Must Do was to make a DLO and show all 3 strategies (which is the Korean Method , Algorithm , and  the Japanese Method) using one of the equation our teacher gave us. I learnt how to use all 3 strategies easily . I was a bit struggling on showing and explaining to my group on how to use the Korean Method , but I stall managed to explain well to them to get the Korean Method. I think for next time I should try and have more than 3 strategies.

Our Must Do was to make a DLO and show all 3 strategies (which is the Korean Method , Algorithm , and  the Japanese Method) using one of the equation our teacher gave us. I learnt how to use all 3 strategies easily . I was a bit struggling on the Japanese Method especially counting all the intersections. I think for next time I should try and have more than 3 strategies.

The Robber's Mask

L.I To find the most important (Main) idea in a text.

In this task we had to make a Google Drawing explaining what the (Text : The Robber's Mask) main idea of the  text  we were reading was about, Explain what we did for reading , and give an example. I learnt that slobber means saliva or good coming out of your mouth. I was a bit struggling on answering some questions.

How to make a poi?

How to make a poi?

Materials Needed.
High Density Foam , Scissors , Sticky Tape , Tin Cane , Wool ,  Needle and Thread , Plastic Container , White Plastic Bag.

  1. First cut the foam into a ball shape. (It is easier if you edge in from the corners which will make your way to the centre).

  1. Secondly after cutting the foam into a ball shape you leave the foam and grab the plastic container and wrap the wool around it and it should be able to fall off from the container.

  1. After that you grab your wool and width it from the inside palm of your hand to the to the inside of you elbow. You will need 8 strings for the 4 sections.
  2. Soon you grab the wool you tied around the tin and the hole in your wool you wrapped around the tin you grab it the 8 stings you did you slide it through the hole until it gets to the middle.

  1. After that you wrap some wool around the hole into a knot.

  1. After wrapping some wool around the hole you put your hand on the wool (leave some wool on top of your hands) and cut it.

  1. (you will have to have a partner for this step) After that you have to braid you pom pom and knot it at the top.

  1. Soon you get your foam that you cut and make a little hole.

  1. After that you get the knot and make it go though the little hole.

  1. The last step is you grab you poi ball and go over the top of your white plastic bag and also grab some of your wool around the bottom of the poi ball and for double security put sticky tape around it and there you have made your Poi.

L.I to write a procedural text.

This week for our writing session we watched a video called How to make a poi and we had listen and list down all the specific words on how to make a poi and the verbs we could hear as well. After that we got into groups and had to plan a procedural text. Our must do was to write a real procedural text which I have done above. I was very struggling on writing the steps on How to make poi? I think for next time when I write a Procedural Text I should highlight all the verbs and specific words.

Korean Method

L.I To investigate the ''Korean'' Method of multiplication.

All Mr Ogilvie groups had to choose either the Algorithm Method , Korean Method and the Japanese to use to show people how to use it. My group Wakatipu did the Korean Method. So we had to make a DLO and show how to use the Korean Method. I was a bit struggling on adding the numbers but I stall managed to do it. I think for next time I should show 2 methods all together just to see if I get the same answer.

Hauora

L.I To understand what hauora is and what it means to athletes past and present.

Today for Inquiry ( Mrs Anderson's Group : Hauora  Pote (My partner for Inquiry) and I finished Challenge 3 and 4. First we had to find a any partner and after that we had to find each others palse. We had to either choose the wrist or the side of the nick when feeling our partner's palse. We had to place our index finger and count how many times we feel our partner's pulse beat in 20 seconds. We had to this 3 times. After that we had to write down the number of pasle beat we got and times it by 3. After timing it by 3 we had to write down all three total and add it up. In our challenges we also had to explain in 25 words why your heart rate might be different to the heart rate of an athlete. We also had to make a Info graphic on Canva on what the four walls of Hauora stand for and also add images as well. I learnt that Taha Tinana is Physical Well Being for example maintaining a healthy body through challenges. I was struggling on feeling where my partner palse was. I think for next time Pote and I should make a more better inforaphic.
