Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 5 - Bonus Activity

It's been a wonderful journey during the Summer Learning Journey. It's been great travelling through times and learning about over 200 years of New Zealand history. For the last Summer Learning Journey I had to write a description of what New Zealand will be like at the time (80-90 years from now). In my description I have to write what kind of houses will people live in, what people eat and where will people work.

I think 80 years time houses will be two story and have elevators in them. I also think there going to be more bigger rooms with more closets. I think food will be more expensive. I think the pizza we eat will be more big. Maybe there will be machines that prepare your breakfast, lunch and dinner. I think people will work late and finish late. I also think people will be working in good and stylish buildings. The one thing I am always thinking about in the future is having cars to fly. Image result for future sign

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 5 - Activity 2

Today for the Summer Learning Journey I have completed activity for day 5 of week 4. For this activity I had to pick out of three cars and tell why I picked that car. The three cars below are the three I had to choose from. I decided to choose the flying car on the right.

I would like the flying car because it can take me too places that are pretty far. If I have to rush someone (e.g birthday) the flying car can use its speed to take me quickly to the birthday. I would like this car because it looks stylish. My last reason on why I like the flying car is if there is traffic and I need to rush to school the flying car can fly over the cars and would take me to school quickly and safe.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 5 - Activity 1

For this Summer Learning Journey activity I had to think about my future. What would I like to do when I finish school? Would I like to work in a specific job? Would I like to study at university? What would I study? Maybe I'd even like to move overseas.

When I finish college I would like to go to University to go study to become a pilot. This was my dream job since I was a little kid. During my rugby games there would be a plane flying pass the rugby field and instead of concentrating on the game I looked up to the plane. I want to be a pilot because I want to travel around the world.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 4 - Bonus Activity

For this Summer Learning Journey activity I had to choose my favorite song and write down the person who wrote it, the name of the song and the lyrics of the song. To earn full points for this activity I had to write down lyrics not copy it from a website. My favorite song is don't give it up. When I hear the music I can't stop singing it even though I don't know that much lyrics.

Song name: Don't give it up

Song writer: Six60
Lyrics:
Don't give it up
I'm telling you
Telling you
Telling you, I
Won't give it up
No, no, no
So don't even
Don't even
Don't even try

People lie all they do is dance between the lines they wont change fake gold chains and shades to hide those eyes

I can't complain
Its just the nature of these times, times

Don't give it up
I'm telling you
Telling you
Telling you, I
Won't give it up
No, no, no
So don't even
Don't even
Don't even try

I was you, trying to find a way
To waste my youth
Ups and downs
Round and round
The world, it turns on you

I can't complain
Its just the nature of these times, times

Don't give it up
I'm telling you
Telling you
Telling you, I
Won't give it up
No, no, no
So don't even
Don't even
Don't even try

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 4 - Activity 2

For the Summer Learning Journey I have completed activity for day 4 of week 4. For this activity I had to watch a a little clip from Country Calendar. After watching the clip I had to give at least two reason on why/why not I should be a farmer when I get older.

For me I would like to be a farmer

WHY?

1. I wouldn't like to become a farmer because it doesn't look fun.

2. I wouldn't like to become a farmer because its not my dream job.

3. My last reason on why I don't want to become a farmer when I grow older is because I don't want to drive big trucks.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 4 - Activity 1

For this Summer Learning Journey activity I had to watch the trailer for Moana and then write a summary of the movie on your blog. If I've already seen the movie which I have, I have to include my favorite part!. I have to tell what the movie is it about? Who are the main characters in the movie? What do they do in the movie? Where do they go?

I've seen this movie times now. My favorite parts is when Maui and Moana was fighting the shinny crab. In this movie is all about a Polynesian girl called Moana from a island far far away called Motonui. The Main Characters are Maui and Moana. Maui is the big man with the moving tattoos who has a big hook. This hook can make him turn into anything. This movies is about Moana going on missions and adventures trying to save her people. One day while Moana was on her journey she met Maui. They both sail together across the sea and fight big monsters like the shiny crab. This is all I know about the movie Moana.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 3 - Bonus Activity

Today I have completed one of the Summer Learning Journey. For this activity I had to Imagine that I am a teacher, and I had to design my own classroom. What would it look like? What furniture would I have?

These are the furniture I would have in my class rooms.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 3 - Activity 2

For this activity I had to post a picture of my hometown and provide a list of three things that tourists could do if they came to visit.

1. Tourists could visit our local library.

2. They could also visit the Panmure Pools which has a slide and a diving pool.

3. Tourist should also visit our local fire station.

What I love most about my town is that theres a lot of shopping centers and theres a cool swimming pool.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 3 - Activity 1

Today for the Summer Learning Journey I completed activity for day 3 of week 4. For this activity I had to imagine that I had to form a coalition government with two other people.

I would choose my teachers Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick. I would choose Mrs Anderson because she really creative with learning and she really fun to be with. Ms Kirkpatrick would be great because she is really smart and fun to be with as well. These two and I will form a good coalition group.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 2 - Bonus Activity

Bonus Activity: Shake it Off
In recent years, many New Zealanders have embraced a new form of exercise called Zumba©. It was developed by a man named Alberto Perez who lives in the country of Columbia. He created Zumba by bringing together many different dance styles including: cumbia, mambo, hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, tango, merengue and mambo.

            The Merengue                                      The Tango

Choose one of the dance styles mentioned above and click on the name to read more about it. Once you are done, post three interesting facts about the dance style on your blog. In which country did it originate? Who originally created it?

I decided to choose samba.

1. Samba is orignally a Brazilian music genre and dance style.

2. Most of the Samba drum is made out of light material so its easy for people to carry it on long parades.

3. Bands traditionally play Samba, which is carnival rhythms, in Brazil.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 2 - Activity 2

Today for the Summer Learning I did the first activity for the second day of the fourth week, for it I had to tell my sporting hero. I have to tell who they are? Why are they a hero? and also include a photo of them.

My sporting hero is Jason Taumalolo. He is a former North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL (National Rugby League). He is also a Tongan international representative. He played for the 2017 Mate Ma'a Tonga team last year. I was so proud that they made it to the Semi Finals with England. In 2016 he was named the RLPA (Rugby League Players Association) player of the year.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 2 - Activity 1

Activity 1: Chasing Great
Over the past 17 years New Zealand has experienced a number of sporting highlights, perhaps none larger than the back-to-back Rugby World Cup victories in 2011 and 2015. In both competitions our national rugby team, the All Blacks, was captained by a man named Richie McCaw. He is arguably one of the best rugby players of all time. A movie called Chasing Great was recently created to document his incredible rugby career.

Please watch the trailer for Chasing Great and read about Richie McCaw online. On your blog tell us three things that you learned about Richie that you did not know beforehand. What else would you like to know about Richie?

What I don't know about Richie McCaw?

1. I didn't know that Richie McCaw was born on the 31th of December 1980.

2. I also didn't know that McCaw was the first All Black to reach 100 caps, and the first rugby union player to win 100 tests.

3. I didn't know he had a movie name Chasing Great.

What else would I like to know about Richie?

1. I want know what his dream job is

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 1 - Bonus Activity

Today I have decided to complete the bonus activity for week 4 of day 1. For this activity I had to take a selfie of myself and post on my blog. I had to try to Try to show at least one of my hobbies or one or my favorite things.

One of my favorite things to do is look  at previous photo like the one I'm holding below. That photo was taken during school. I like looking at photos because it takes me back when I was a little kid. I think looking at photos is a really amazing hobbie for me.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 1 - Activity 2

Today I have completed one of the Summer Learning Journey activities. For this activity I had to Imagine that instead of Peter Jackson spending the money on the movies (Lord of the Rings) he decided to give all of this money to me. I have to tell what I would do with $300 million dollars.

For me I would half the money for the poor people and half for me. So the poor people will have $15,000,000 dollars and I will have the same amount as well. I would spend this on my school fees and school stationary. I would also spend on getting a new Chromebook for school and a new uniform for school. The last thing I would do with my money is buy new clothes and shoes.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 4 - Day 1 - Activity 1

Today I had completed one of the Summer Learning Journey activities. For this activity I had to tell what my family would usually do on special events such as birthdays or weddings. I have to tell what my special meal my family eat or if we go to a specific place.

In our family our traditional birthday food is usually Tongan food like Faikekai& Lu Sipi, Otai. We sometimes celebrate our birthdays by eating fast food (like pizza) and normally eat cake with ice cream. Sometimes we go out places like our family members house.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 3 - Day 5 - Bonus Activity

For the Summer Learning Journey I have finally completed the bonus activity for day 5 of week 3. For this activity I had to tell what I think about why or why not should students have to pay money (tuition fees) to go to university?

I think students shouldn't pay fees because some people don't have enough money. Why? Because people are too busy paying bills for the house and food for their kids. I think students shouldn't pay fees to go university because if they can't pay it that means their dream job is gone and that is not good for them and their families.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 3 - Day 4 - Bonus Activity

Today I have completed one of the Summer Learning Journey activities. For this activity I had to Imagine that I was Scotty Morrison and I was able to interview anyone I wanted. I learnt that Rachel would choose to interview our new prime minister, Jacinda Ardern. I had to tell who I would choose to interview and why? I also had to tell what I would like to find out about that person?

I would like to interview Jason Taumalolo (rugby league footballer) because he is my favorite player in the Tonga rugby league team. I would like to find out what exercises he does to train himself and what he eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I would also like to find out how hard it is to practice the Sipi Tau (Tonga haka).

Summer Learning Journey - Week 3 - Day 4 - Activity 2

Today I have completed activity 2 for day 4. For this activity I had to Imagine that I was a student in the 1980s and I am about to graduate from high school. I had to tell where I would like to go on my big OE (big overseas experience)? On my blog I had to tell which country I would visit and give three (3) reasons for my choice. I also had to find some pictures on the internet of things that I would like to see and do in that country.

If I would to go on my big OE I would go to Australia. I would like to Australia because I have some family members there like my mums brothers. I could visit them because I haven't seen them in a long time. I would also go their because I would like to visit Australia because most of the NRL (National Rugby league) games are there and I really like watching rugby. I would like to go Australia because I want to go to Wet'n'Wild. My older brother has been there and it would be amazing if I could go there as well. Image result for wet and wild australia

Summer Learning Journey - Week 3 - Day 4 - Activity 1

Today for the Summer Learning Journey I have completed activity 1 for day 4. For this activity I had to use the following sentence starter from the original book (Hairy Maclary) to finish the story.

"Out of the gate and off for a walk went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's ..."

Out of the gate and off for a walk went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy and Hercules Morse as big as a horse, with Hairy Maclary from Donald's Dairy. Bottomley Potts covered in spots, Hercules Morse as big as a horse and Hairy Maclary from Donald's Dairy. Muffin McLay like a bundle of hay, Bottomley Potts covered in spots, Hercules Morse as big as a horse and Hairy Maclary from Donald's Dairy. Bitzer Maloney all skinny and bony, Muffin McLay like a bundle of hay, Bottomley Potts covered in spots, Hercules Morse as big as a horse and Hairy Maclary from Donald's Dairy. Schnitzel von Krumm with a very low tum, Bitzer Maloney all skinny and bony, Muffin McLay like a bundle of hay, Bottomley Potts covered in spots, Hercules Morse as big as a horse and Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy. With tails in the air they trotted on down past the shops and the park to the far end of town. They sniffed at the smells and they snooped at each door, when suddenly, out of the shadows they saw.... SCARFACE CLAW the toughest Tom in town. "EEEEEOWWWFFTZ!" said Scarface Claw. Off with a yowl a wail and a howl, a scatter of paws and a clatter of claws, went Schnitzel von Krumm with a very low turn, Bitzer Maloney all skinny and bony, Muffin McLay like a bundle of hay, Bottomley Potts covered in spots, Hercules Morse as big as a horse and Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy, straight back home to bed.

THE END

Summer Learning Journey - Week 3 - Day 3 - Bonus Activity

Today I have completed one of the Summer Learning Journey activities. For this activity I had to write a convinced letter to my principal about what I would want to change about the school. I had to make sure that the the letter is polite and respectful.

January 7, 2018

Ofa Latuila
9 Trent Rd
Panmure, Auckland

Dear Mr. Johnson,

I have been thinking all day about having 5 days of school. I think we should have 4 days of doing school work like Reading, Writing and Reading and then on the 5th day (Friday) students can choose their favorite subject (e.g - art). This is similar to electives where we choose our favorite activities to do. This gives students a chance to learn their favorite subject instead of always doing Reading, Writing and Maths. I think this should happen because students have been improving in their academics and I think on Friday they should have a break.

Sincerely,

Ofa Latuila

Summer Learning Journey - Week 3 - Day 3 - Activity 2

Summer Learning - Week 3 - Day 1 - Activity 2

Today for the Summer Learning Journey I have completed activity 2 for day 1. For this activity I had to list which names are currently popular in my school. In the 1950s the names that were popular for baby girls were Christine, Susan, Margaret, Judith, and Jennifer. The names that were popular for baby boys in 1950 was John, David, Peter, Michael, and Robert.

1950s popular baby names:
Boys - John, David Peter, Michael and Robert
Girls - Christine, Susan, Margaret, Judith and Jennifer

In our school  there is one boy name Peter and one boy name David. Theres is also one boy name Michael who is in room 2. I think the popular name in our school is Peter.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 3 - Day 1 - Activity 1

Today I did the Summer Learning Journey. I have completed week 2 and now coming to week 3. I have completed activity 1 for day 1. For this activity I had to say weather I like it or not with the meat and three veg rule.

I think the meat and three veg rule is good. I would enjoy a delicious meat with three veg. I like it because it means I don't need to eat more veges than I do at home. I usually eat 5 veg which is usually tomato, lettuce, broccoli, carrot and potato. The meat and three veg rule is great because if you want to loose weight this can be a good diet for you.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 2 - Day 5 - Activity 2

Today for the Summer Learning Journey I have come activity 2 for day 5. In this activity I have learnt what men and women wore to cricket games back in the 1940s. Men use to wear suits and hats and women wearing dresses, hats and gloves. For this activity I had to compare the clothing that was worn in 1940 and the clothes that I wear now. I also had to tell which one I would prefer to wear.

The clothes I wear clothes is way different from the 1940s. I didn't wear suits and hat to any sporting games. I usually wear shorts, t-shirt and a jacket. I don't really wear hats to sporting games as well. For me I would prefer the modern style clothing because it is more stylish and their is more brands like Nike, Puma, Adidas, etc.

Summer Learning Journey - Week 2 - Day 5 - Activity 1

Today for the Summer Learning Journey I have completed activity 1 for day 5. For this activity I had to imagine I was one of the people living back in 1945 and had to throw a VE (Victory in Europe) party. I had to tell what I'd would do to celebrate and who I would invite to the party.

I would invite my family members and would probably have a BBQ together with fizzy drinks. My family and I would probably go to our relatives and go somewhere like out to beaches and swim. After that we would go home say our pray and go sleep really late.
