Using A Place Value House
Today for maths my group Wakatipu are focusing on using a Place Value House to solve equations. For this task We had to answer three questions which included: What is a place value, How does it work, and How you use it to solve problems. We also had to explain how to solve equations by using the Place Value House. I learnt that when you add and multiply it goes bigger and it moves to the left of the Place Value House and if it is subtracted it moves to the Right of the Place Value House.

Well done Ofa, you have set this out in a very thoughtful way which makes it easy for someone who doesn't know about place value to understand how it works. Your example was well thought out as it showed the "ones" place value being bigger than 9 and having to move to the left. Some more reflection on how you found the process would be helpful to you personally to figure out when to use this as a strategy. You could also compare place value to the strategy from last term of splitting the numbers.
