Summer Learning Journey - Week 3 - Day 2 - Activity 2

Today for the Summer Learning Journey I have completed activity 2 for day 2. For this activity I had to read a text about the Beatles tour of New Zealand and then write 3 interesting facts about their tour.

1. The Beatles first stop was in Wellington where there were seven thousand fans (most of them were young women).

2. The crowds outside the Beatles hotel (the St George) was large that the Beatles had to be taken in secretly through a bottle shop entrance of the hotel.

3. One girl hurt her leg trying to climb a wire fence and two others were forced through the fence because of pushing from behind.

  1. Hi Ofa,

I'm so glad that you're participating in the Summer Learning Journey! I'm reading your blog from my home in Canada. My daughter, Rachel, and grandson, Aronui, live in Auckland and so I have the opportunity to be one of the blog readers this summer.

It's hard to imagine just how very very famous the Beatles were in the 1960's. My sister went to see them perform in Toronto and there were thousands and thousands of screaming girls who met them when they arrived, just as in New Zealand. Many of the girls at the concerts fainted because they were so excited and because they were tightly packed into a very hot concert hall. It was a bit of a madhouse whenever the Beatles performed!

Have you ever gone to a big music concert?

It sounds as though you enjoy school and you enjoy sports. I hope you're having a lovely summer holiday and that your sport teams are doing well!

Keep up your excellent blogging work!

    Leslie

  2. Hi Ofa

Hi my name is Allie and I am the cluster manager for the SLJ in Toki Pounamu on the West Coast of the South Island. So I live in Greymouth.

Beatle Mania must have been crazy back in the 60's. Imagine arriving somewhere and getting out of a car or bus and being greeted by thousand of screaming girls. I wonder how they felt about this. Because it must of happened everywhere they went

They would of had to sneak into lots of places just to escape from the crazy fans.

You have found three really great facts about the tour. It's great that when they came to New Zealand that they were given a traditional Maori welcome as they would not get this anywhere else in the world.

Well done Ofa, Keep up the great work

    Until next time

    Allie :)
